Preparing Surrogates for Decision-Making: Development and Pilot Testing of PREPARE For THEIR Care.

Context: Surrogate decision-makers have expressed the need for better preparation around communication and medical decision-making.

Objectives: This mixed-methods feasibility study aimed to assess the feasibility and usability of an online program to prepare surrogates for their role.

Methods: We developed a 2-part program for surrogates called PREPARE For THEIR Care with a diverse group of Community Advisory Board members and caregivers recruited from the National Patient Advocacy Foundation.

Biomarkers.

Background: An easy and reliable method for detection of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is critical for clinical trial enrollment. In the era of amyloid-lowering therapies, there is a need to identify individuals likely to have amyloid to enrich recruitment and lower costs related to amyloid PET. In addition, a subset of cognitively normal individuals have amyloid deposition (Preclinical AD) but to date there is no cognitive assessment or screening method that can detect these individuals in the absence of expensive biomarkers.

Early-Life Exposures and Odds of Adenomyosis: A Population-Based Case-Control Study.

Background: Adenomyosis can confer life-altering symptoms such as pelvic pain. Yet, the epidemiologic study of this uterine condition lags other gynaecologic conditions. This includes the investigation of intrauterine exposures that could disrupt foetal development and contribute to the presence of adenomyosis in adulthood.

Mode of Action of Psyllium in Reducing Gas Production from Inulin and its Interaction with Colonic Microbiota: A 24 hours, Randomised, Placebo-Controlled Trial in Healthy Human Volunteers.

Background: Recent studies show that the increase in breath hydrogen (BH) and symptoms after ingestion of inulin is reduced by co-administering psyllium.

Objectives: To determine if slowing delivery of inulin to the colon by administering it in divided doses would mimic the effect of psyllium. Primary endpoint was the BH area under the curve AUC.
