The effects of mechanical vibrations on control system stability could be significant in control systems designed on the assumption of rigid-body dynamics, such as launch vehicles. Vibrational loads can also cause damage to launch vehicles due to fatigue or excitation of structural resonances. This paper investigates a method to control structural vibrations in real time using a finite number of strain measurements from a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor array.

Article Synopsis
  • Protein/protein interactions (PPI) are important for brain functions, but their use as drug targets for brain disorders is not fully explored.
  • A small molecule called compound 1028 has been identified that targets the FGF14/Na1.6 PPI and affects the channel's activity, resulting in increased excitability of neurons.
  • Administering compound 1028 can enhance motivation under challenging conditions, and its effects are linked to changes in dopamine levels in the brain, suggesting a new way to impact behaviors related to neuropsychiatric disorders.

: We compared thoracic electrical impedance tomography (EIT) with slow vital capacity (SVC) to determine if EIT could monitor pulmonary function in ALS patients longitudinally. : Of 32 ALS patients and 32 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) initially enrolled in the Pulmonary Function via Impedance Tomography (PuFIT) study, 22 ALS and 20 HCs returned for a follow-up visit ∼3.9 months later.
