Use of prenatal ultrasound findings to predict postnatal outcome in fetuses with lower urinary tract obstruction.

Objective: Lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) is a chronic condition with a spectrum of outcomes. It is usually suspected prenatally based on ultrasound features (USFs). Given the unknown postnatal trajectory and the potential for significant morbidity and mortality, many families choose termination of pregnancy (TOP), often based on USFs alone.

Post-synthesis Oxidation of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles to Enhance Magnetic Particle Imaging Performance.

This study investigates the impact of post-synthesis oxidation on the performance of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) in magnetic particle imaging (MPI), an emerging technology with applications in diagnostic imaging and theranostics. SPIONs synthesized from iron oleate were subjected to a post-synthesis oxidation treatment with a 1% Oxygen in Argon mixture. MPI performance, gauged via signal intensity and resolution using a MOMENTUM scanner, was correlated to the nanoparticles' physical and magnetic properties.

Magnetic Cellular Backpacks for Spatial Targeting, Imaging, and Immunotherapy.

Adoptive cell transfer (ACT) therapies are growing in popularity due to their ability to interact with diseased tissues in a specific manner. Disc-shaped particles, or "backpacks", that bind to cellular surfaces show promise for augmenting the therapeutic potential of adoptively transferred cells by resisting phagocytosis and locally releasing drugs to maintain cellular activity over time. However, many ACTs suffer from limited tumor infiltration and retention and lack a method for real-time spatial analysis.

Pathological Findings in Fetuses Terminated for Suspected Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction: Experience From a High-Risk Fetal Center in Canada.

Purpose: Pregnancies complicated by prenatally suspected lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) can be associated with high rates of terminations due to potentially poor outcomes. Herein, we assessed autopsy findings of fetuses terminated for suspected LUTO to evaluate the prenatal diagnostic accuracy and spectrum of underlying pathologies.

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective review of all pregnancies referred to a high-risk fetal center in a universal access to care health care system for suspected LUTO that opted for termination of pregnancy between 2009 and 2022.

Trends in Management of Fetuses with Suspected Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction (LUTO): A High-Risk Fetal and Pediatric Center Experience in a Universal-Access-to-Care System.

Introduction:  Neonates with lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) experience high morbidity and mortality associated with the development of chronic kidney disease. The prenatal detection rate for LUTO is less than 50%, with late or missed diagnosis leading to delayed management and long-term sequelae in the remainder. We aimed to explore the trends in prenatal detection and management at a high-risk fetal center and determine if similar trends of postnatal presentations were noted for the same period.
