Purpose: To investigate the pharmacokinetics (PK) of ceftazidime-avibactam (CAZ-AVI) in critically ill patients undergoing continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF), and compare with a general phase III trial population.

Methods: A prospective PK study was conducted in critically ill patients who received CVVHDF for acute kidney injury, treated with CAZ-AVI (1000/250 mg or 2000/500 mg q8h). Plasma and CVVHDF-circuit samples were collected to determine CAZ-AVI concentrations.

Antimicrobial resistance poses a major threat to human health worldwide and the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs), including antimicrobial de-escalation (ADE), is a multifaceted tool for minimizing unnecessary or inappropriate antibiotic exposure. This was a prospective observational study of 142 non-Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients with microbiologically documented infection who were initially administered empirical antimicrobial therapy and admitted to the medical wards of 6 tertiary-care hospitals in Greece from January 2017 to December 2018. Patients were divided into two groups, the ADE and non-ADE group, based on whether ADE was applied or not, respectively.

Primary cytomegalovirus infection during pregnancy has a high risk of vertical transmission, with severe fetal sequelae mainly associated with first-trimester infections. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 200 IU/kg cytomegalovirus-specific hyperimmune globulin (HIG), used in first-trimester maternal primary infections for congenital infection prevention. The primary outcome was vertical transmission, defined as neonatal viruria or positive amniocentesis if pregnancy was discontinued.

Article Synopsis
  • * Key management strategies for IAIs involve accurate diagnostics, timely source control, and appropriate use of antibiotics based on pharmacokinetics and stewardship principles.
  • * A personalized treatment approach is essential, requiring ongoing assessment of factors like infection extent, potential pathogens, patient health status, and immune response to improve patient outcomes.

Objectives: To evaluate the in vitro activity of the combination of apramycin with colistin, meropenem, minocycline or sulbactam, against some well-characterized XDR Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates from Greece, to understand how apramycin can be best incorporated into clinical practice and optimize effectiveness.

Methods: In vitro interactions of apramycin (0.5×, 1× and 2× the MIC value) with colistin (2 mg/L), meropenem (30 mg/L), minocycline (3.
