Purpose: Cefdinir and cephalexin are cephalosporin antibiotics commonly used in the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). Their efficacy depends on achieving sufficient time with concentrations exceeding the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Despite being frequently prescribed for UTIs, cefdinir has markedly lower urine penetration compared to cephalexin.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the differences in CD4 + T-cell glucose metabolism between HIV-positive women with diabetes and those without, focusing on how diabetes impacts immune dysfunction related to HIV.* -
  • Using various techniques like flow cytometry and gene expression analysis, researchers found that HIV-positive women with diabetes had significantly higher levels of a metabolic marker (GLUT1) and elevated gene expression related to glucose metabolism.* -
  • The findings suggest that treating diabetes in HIV-positive women may help improve the metabolic dysfunction of CD4 + T cells, highlighting the interconnectedness of these two diseases.*

Background: CD4 T cells play an important role in atherosclerosis, but their antigen specificity is poorly understood. Immunization with apolipoprotein B (ApoB, core protein of low density lipoprotein) is known to be atheroprotective in animal models. Here, we report on a human APOB peptide, p18, that is sequence-identical in mouse ApoB and binds to both mouse and human major histocompatibility complex class II molecules.

Introduction: Varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes chicken pox and herpes zoster and is a self-limiting disease in healthy children. Vaccination is recommended for children, adolescents, and adults. This study discusses a healthy pediatric patient with negative immunoglobulin (Ig) G VZV antibody (Ab) status after two doses of varicella vaccine and then subsequently re-immunized.
