Article Synopsis
  • * Results showed that, at the start, retinal thickness in these patients was significantly lower compared to healthy peers, and it continued to thin over time, with an average annual decline of 6.70 µm.
  • * Despite no significant change in volume of certain retinal structures during follow-up, the findings suggest ongoing retinal thinning post-treatment, warranting long-term monitoring for affected patients.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study analyzed 106 RP patients and found that 73.1% had ME in at least one eye, with significant associations linked to structural factors like epiretinal membrane (ERM) and vitreo-macular traction (VMT).
  • * Genetic factors showed strong correlations with ME; specifically, X-linked and autosomal dominant inheritance patterns, along with mutations in RP1 and EYS genes, were significantly associated with the condition.

Purpose: Ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging is commonly used in ophthalmology in tandem with scleral depressed examinations (SDE) to evaluate peripheral retinal disease. Because of the increased reliance on this technology in tele-ophthalmology, it is critical to evaluate its efficacy for detecting the peripheral retina when performed in isolation. Therefore, we sought to evaluate UWF imaging sensitivity in detecting retinal horseshoe tears (HSTs).
