Analysis of publications in the Journal of Fish Biology between 2008 and 2021 revealed that variables such as the number of keywords, abstract length, number of authors, and page length were associated with higher impact papers. These trends applied to both review and regular papers.

The scaffold protein receptor for Activated C Kinase1 (RACK1) regulates multiple aspects of plants, including seed germination, growth, environmental stress responses, and flowering. Recent studies have revealed that RACK1 is associated with NADPH-dependent reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling in plants. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in the United States. In Virginia, which is a representative, ethnically diverse state of more than 8 million people that was established nearly 400 years ago, prostate cancer has the highest rate of new detection for any type of cancer. All men are at risk of developing prostate cancer regardless of demographics, but some men have an increased mortality risk due to cancer metastasis.

The DNA origami strategy for assembling designed supramolecular complexes requires ssDNA as a scaffold strand. A system is described that was designed approximately one third the length of the M13 bacteriophage genome for ease of ssDNA production. Folding of the 2404-base ssDNA scaffold into a variety of origami shapes with high assembly yields is demonstrated.

The cellular translocon, present in all three domains of life, is one of the most versatile and important biological nanopores. This complex molecular apparatus is directly responsible for the secretion of globular proteins across membranes as well as the insertion of integral membrane proteins into lipid bilayers. Recently determined structures of the archaean SecY translocon reveal an hour-glass-shaped pore, which accommodates the nascent peptide chain during translocation.
