Background And Aims: The impact of gender on the development of chronic ileal pouch disorders following ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) has not been evaluated. This study was aimed to assess the association between gender and pouch outcomes.
Methods: Comparisons of long-term pouch outcomes between male and female patients were performed using both univariate and multivariate analyses.
The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) has been implicated in attending to one's own emotional states, but the role of emotional valence in this context is not understood. We examined valence-specific BOLD activity in a previously validated functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) paradigm. Ten healthy subjects viewed emotional pictures and categorized their experience as pleasant, unpleasant or neutral.

In the light of these observations and of a literature review, they recall the frequency of these arrhythmias, their possible role in the event of the sudden death of the hypertensive subject without coronary disease and their physiopathology, where the left ventricular hypertrophy is predominant. The action of intravenous flecainide was studied in patients presenting a tachyarrhythmia secondary to a permanent atrial fibrillation of recent onset. We obtained 9 improvements in 15 patients included in the protocol which consisted in the intravenous injection of 2 mg/kg of flecainide in 10 minutes. The side effects were minimal: no sign of cardia insufficiency nor alteration of the arterial blood pressure was noted.

Its side-effects are few. Among them, agranulocytosis is a severe complication, all the more severe and frequent as it occurs in patients with chronic renal insufficiency, collagen disease, or patient treated with medication having a leucopenic potential.
