2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) and 1,1-dimethyl-4,4-bipiridinium chloride (paraquat) are among the most widely used herbicides and are known to be toxic. Fabrication of green adsorbents which are capable of removing both herbicides remains a challenge. Here, we fabricate a novel adsorbent from tropical waste wood and use a facile, chitosan-mediated N-heteroatom functionalization technique to augment surface nitrogen and improve specific surface area.

Purpose: Coroners' Prevention of Future Death (PFDs) reports are an under-utilized resource to learn about preventable deaths in England and Wales. We aimed to identify sepsis-related PFDs and explore the causes and concerns in this subset of preventable sepsis deaths.

Methods: Four thousand three hundred five reports were acquired from the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary website between July 2013 and November 2022, which were screened for sepsis.

Chemical activation of waste materials, to form activated carbon, (AC) is complicated by the large amounts of chemical activating agents required and wastewater produced. To address these problems, we have developed an optimized process for producing AC, by phosphoric acid activation of construction waste. Waste wood from construction sites was ground and treated with an optimized phosphoric acid digestion and activation that resulted in high surface areas (> 2000 m/g) and a greater recovery of phosphoric acid.
