Atrial fibrillation (AF) is strongly associated with strokes, heart failure, and increased mortality. This study aims to identify the monocyte-macrophage heterogeneity and interactions of these cells with non-immune cells, and to identify functional biomarkers in patients with AF. Therefore, we assess the single cell landscape of left atria (LA), using a combination of single cell and nucleus RNA-seq.

Medical management of post-sublobar resection pulmonary granulomatous lesion: a report of two cases.

Background: Automatic stapling devices are commonly utilized in pulmonary resections, including sublobar segmentectomy. Large tumors can develop around the staple line, posing challenges in distinguishing them from cancer recurrence or inflammatory changes. In this report, we present two cases of symptomatic staple granulomatous lesion effectively managed with medications.

Amyloid deposition through endocytosis in vascular endothelial cells.

No mechanistic lead is known for establishing AL amyloid deposits in organs. We here report an electron microscopic (EM) analysis in a case of intestinal AL amyloidosis before initiating treatment for amyloidosis. The dense deposits of amyloid fibrils are concentrated around the small blood vessels in the submucosal area of intestinal tissue.

Impact on outcomes of measuring lactates prior to ICU in unselected heterogeneous critically ill patients: A propensity score analysis.

Background: Elevated blood lactate levels were reported as effective predictors of clinical outcome and mortality in ICU. However, there have been no studies simply comparing the timing of measuring lactates before vs. after ICU admission.
