- Biological agents for psoriasis treatment can lead to changes in antinuclear antibody (ANA) status, with a focus on how specific agents like infliximab and ustekinumab affect this.
- A study of 31 psoriasis patients showed 38.7% developed ANA positivity during treatments, predominantly in those using infliximab, but without any evidence of autoimmune disease.
- Results indicate that factors such as methotrexate use and history of phototherapy had no significant effect on ANA changes, suggesting that biological agents aren't major risk factors for developing autoimmune conditions.
Rituximab is a chimeric human/murine monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody. This agent is an effective therapeutic option in severe types of pemphigus. However, rituximab may cause opportunistic infections if used in immunosuppressed patients.
