Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) describes a characteristic fibrosing disorder which typically presents with indurated plaques on the trunk and extremities of patients with advanced renal disease. We present a case of biopsy-confirmed NSF in a patient with severe acute kidney injury with no prior history of renal disease. A 64-year-old man with an acute and severe decrease in glomerular filtration rate underwent magnetic resonance imaging studies with gadolinium contrast (Omniscan) and subsequently developed NSF.

Purpose: Oral ciprofloxacin has the requisite pharmacokinetic and antibacterial properties to rival the potency of intravenous antibiotics. This study was designed to determine whether oral ciprofloxacin could abbreviate the course of intravenous antibiotics in the treatment of serious infections.

Patients And Methods: Hospitalized adult patients were eligible for enrollment if they had a serious infection that was expected to require 8 or more days of intravenous antibiotic treatment.

Malignant histiocytosis (MH) is a rapidly fatal systemic disease for which there is no adequate therapy. A case of MH with involvement of both eyes resulting in bilateral blindness is presented. Infiltration with malignant cells was seen in the ciliary bodies at autopsy.
