Objectives: Until now, the external quality assessment (EQA) of glucose point-of-care testing (POCT) has lacked a high quality, suitable and commutable control material to assess measurement accuracy. Here we present a concept for determining the accuracy of glucose measurements, which uses human whole blood and does not require stabilising agents.

Methods: This new generation of quality control samples uses a bead that contains a specific amount of glucose.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ), C99, and Tau in vulnerable areas of the brain. Despite extensive research, current strategies to lower Aβ levels have shown limited efficacy in slowing the cognitive decline associated with AD. Recent findings suggest that C99 may also play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of AD.

Southern ocean carbon and heat impact on climate.

The Southern Ocean greatly contributes to the regulation of the global climate by controlling important heat and carbon exchanges between the atmosphere and the ocean. Rates of climate change on decadal timescales are therefore impacted by oceanic processes taking place in the Southern Ocean, yet too little is known about these processes. Limitations come both from the lack of observations in this extreme environment and its inherent sensitivity to intermittent processes at scales that are not well captured in current Earth system models.
