Objective: To compare increased bone uptake of 99Tcm-MDP and magnetic resonance (MR) detected subchondral lesions, osteophytes, and cartilage defects in the knee in middle aged people with long-standing knee pain.
Methods: Fifty eight people (aged 41-58 years, mean 50) with chronic knee pain, with or without radiographic knee osteoarthritis, were examined with bone scintigraphy. The pattern and the grade of increased bone uptake was assessed.
The intra- and interindividual variation in the gastrointestinal transit times was measured in 12 healthy adult test subjects using a scintigraphic method with 111In marked single unit tablets. Test conditions were semi-standardized. The variation within the same individual was as large as the variation between different subjects regarding the transit times through both the small and the large intestines.

The net thoracic magnetic moment of 58 highly exposed nonsmoking shipyard welders and 13 unexposed nonsmoking electricians was measured with an alternating current susceptibility bridge. The welding cohort exhibits a thorax magnetic moment, which on the average is less diamagnetic than that of the controls. This shift is consistent with a median lung burden of 110 mg Fe3O4, or 220 mg of the welding fumes characteristic for shipyard exposures.

Studies included radiographic examination, radionuclide examination, and bone marrow biopsy. Radiographs of the skeleton demonstrated metastases in 120 patients (32%), and in 40 of these patients (13%) the bone was the only site of metastases.
