Article Synopsis
  • Psychedelics may offer new treatment options for neuropsychiatric disorders, but their exact neural mechanisms are not fully understood.
  • Researchers studied specific neurons in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) of mice that are influenced by psychedelics, using cutting-edge techniques like light- and calcium-based tools and RNA sequencing.
  • Reactivating these psychedelic-responsive neurons produced anxiety-reducing effects similar to those of psychedelics without inducing hallucinations, shedding light on how different types of cells contribute to behavioral changes linked to psychedelics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study highlights the importance of vaccinating pediatric solid organ transplant candidates against measles and varicella due to the severe risks these infections pose to immunosuppressed individuals and the challenges of administering live vaccines post-transplant.* -
  • Conducted from 2012 to 2016, the research at Cleveland Clinic Children’s found that over half of the candidates had complete varicella vaccines and a large portion received measles vaccinations, but incomplete immunity was common, particularly in younger patients.* -
  • Despite the increased awareness and the necessity for booster doses, only a small percentage of eligible candidates received additional vaccinations for varicella and measles, indicating gaps in immunity optimization during a period of heightened measles activity globally.*

Lack of access to timely, detailed antibiotic use data has limited ambulatory antibiotic stewardship efforts. Antibiotic utilization is tracked across ambulatory care sites and emergency departments (ED) within a large integrated health system. This is a retrospective cohort analysis from June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020 comparing antibiotic prescribing for all patients with ICD-10 diagnosis codes for cystitis, otitis media, pharyngitis, sinusitis, and upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) among five ambulatory care departments across northeast Ohio and southeast Florida locations: ED, Urgent Care (UC), On-Demand Telehealth (TEL), Pediatrics (PED), and Primary Care (PC).

Background: Understanding growth regulatory pathways is important in aquaculture, fisheries, and vertebrate physiology generally. Machine learning pattern recognition and sensitivity analysis were employed to examine metabolomic small molecule profiles and transcriptomic gene expression data generated from liver and white skeletal muscle of hybrid striped bass (white bass Morone chrysops x striped bass M. saxatilis) representative of the top and bottom 10 % by body size of a production cohort.
