The β-sitosterol-β-ᴅ-glucoside (BSSG) rat model of experimental parkinsonism develops pathological behaviour and motor changes that progress over time. The purpose of this study was to identify early changes in structure and function of the brain of rats treated with BSSG using both structural and resting-state functional MRI. BSSG and non-BSSG rats were fed five days a week for sixteen weeks, then underwent in vivo MRI scans and an assessment of motor performance 2 and 8 weeks later (18 and week 24 from BSSG).

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined 33 severe COVID-19 patients who underwent a novel hemoperfusion therapy using the Seraph100 filter, aiming to reduce viral RNA levels and markers of inflammation.
  • Results showed that while the initial levels of SARS-CoV-2 RNA were generally low and did not significantly change post-treatment, five inflammatory protein analytes exhibited notable decreases, indicating some therapeutic effect on inflammation and endothelial damage.
  • The conclusion highlighted that Seraph 100 did not effectively lower viral RNA levels, but it did successfully reduce several inflammatory markers in the blood of these patients.

Purpose: There is significant variability in the application of positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) in patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation. There are numerous studies assessing methods of determining optimal PEEP, but many methods, patient populations, and study settings lack high-quality evidence. Guidelines make no recommendations about the use of a specific method because of equipoise and lack of high-quality evidence.

Background And Objectives: Prediction of patient outcomes after severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) is limited with current clinical tools. This study aimed to improve such prognostication by combining clinical data and serum inflammatory and neuronal proteins in patients with sTBI to develop predictive models for post-traumatic vasospasm (PTV) and mortality.

Methods: Fifty-three adult civilian patients were prospectively enrolled in the sTBI arm of the Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i).

As the literature states, interoception is important in health and wellness. Disruption of this system can negatively impact occupational performance. We completed a descriptive study to understand how occupational therapy practitioners working with adults address interoceptive awareness.
