Nanofiber meshes from electrospun chitosan, highly modified with biotin and arylazides, are well-suited for application as enzyme immobilization matrices. To test this, catalytically active biomolecules were immobilized onto photocrosslinked nanofibrous nonwovens consisting mainly of biotinylated fungal chitosan and a small amount (10 w%) of poly ethylene oxide. In this study, we show that over 10 μg eugenol oxidase per milligram dry polymer matrix can be loaded on UV-crosslinked chitosan nanofibers.

This research focuses on exploring the potential of mycelium as a sustainable alternative to wood or solid foam in pultruded glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) sandwich profiles. The study evaluates the performance and the environmental sustainability potential of this composite by mechanical tests and life cycle assessment (LCA). Analysis and comparison of pultruded sandwich profiles with mycelium, polyurethane (PUR) foam and chipboard demonstrate that mycelium is competitive in terms of its performance and environmental impact.

Phase separation into an A2+B2 two-phase microstructure in refractory compositionally complex alloys (RCCA) has been speculated as being spinodal in nature with continuous chemical distribution during the separation. However, these reactions might instead occur as precipitation by nucleation and growth. In order to unequivocally elucidate the distinct nature of phase separation sequence in RCCA from the system Ta-Mo-Ti-Cr-Al, atom probe tomography and electron microscopy techniques were utilized on samples that were annealed over multiple orders of magnitude in time.

Bisphenol A (BPA), which is contained in numerous plastic products, is known to act as an endocrine-disruptive, toxic, and carcinogenic chemical. This experimental series sought to determine the influence of BPA exposure on the femoral bone architecture and biomechanical properties of male and female Wistar rats. BPA was applied subcutaneously by using osmotic pumps.
