Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created a way to decide which surgeries should be done first after COVID-19, focusing on how it affects people's health and costs.
  • They looked at 13 common surgeries and found that delaying surgeries like hip replacements really affects people's quality of life the most, while some surgeries have lower impacts.
  • The study showed that waiting for surgeries led to a big money loss for the hospital, especially after the first COVID-19 wave, and their framework can help hospitals prioritize surgeries better in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • - The long-term follow-up study reassessed 73 patients from the PANTER trial, evaluating the efficacy of a surgical step-up approach for infected necrotizing pancreatitis compared to traditional open necrosectomy, with a follow-up period averaging 86 months.
  • - Results indicated that only 44% of the step-up group experienced death or major complications versus 73% in the open-necrosectomy group, alongside significantly lower rates of issues like incisional hernias and pancreatic insufficiency in the step-up group.
  • - Both groups showed similar rates in terms of needing additional drainage or surgeries, and patients reported improved quality of life without significant differences between the surgical techniques used.

Operating rooms (ORs) more and more evolve into high-tech environments with increasing pressure on finances, logistics, and a not be neglected impact on patient safety. Safe and cost-effective implementation of technological equipment in ORs is notoriously difficult to manage, specifically as generic implementation activities omit as hospitals have implemented local policies for implementations of technological equipment. The purpose of this study is to identify success factors for effective implementations of new technologies and technological equipment in ORs, based on a systematic literature review.
