[Targeted ultrasound in the general practitioner's office : The GREC perspective].

The term POCUS, Point-Of-Care Ultrasound or targeted ultrasonography, has appeared in recent years, quickly establishing itself as an essential tool in certain specialties, such as emergency medicine. Since 2018, the Swiss Institute for Medical postgraduate and continues Education (ISFM) delegates training and accreditation of POCUS in various specialties to the Swiss Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (SSUM).

Bacteraemia--a New York perception.

Positive blood cultures (in total 7541) obtained from patients of varied social background in a New York medical centre between 1984 and 1989 are reviewed. Streptococcus pneumoniae predominated in community-acquired infections, and coagulase-negative staphylococci and Staphylococcus aureus in nosocomial infections, the latter often arising from intravenous lines. The reported trend towards Gram-positive isolates is confirmed in this series.

Evaluation of substrates for radiometric detection of bacteria in blood cultures.

Various 14C-labeled substrates were evaluated for their potential use in blood culture media. These uniformly labeled compounds were added to hypertonic and anaerobic formulations of modified Columbia broth and compared with analogous BACTEC media with the BACTEC 460.
