Towards clinical breakpoints for non-tuberculous mycobacteria - Determination of epidemiological cut off values for the Mycobacterium avium complex and Mycobacterium abscessus using broth microdilution.

Objective: For non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) distributions of wild-type isolates have not been systematically evaluated despite their importance for establishing antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) breakpoints.

Methods: We gathered MIC distributions for drugs used against the Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and Mycobacterium abscessus (MAB) obtained by commercial broth microdilution (SLOMYCOI and RAPMYCOI) from 12 laboratories. Epidemiological cut-off values (ECOFFs) and tentative ECOFFs (TECOFFs) were determined by EUCAST methodology including quality control (QC) strains.

Association of Healthcare and Aesthetic Procedures with Infections Caused by Nontuberculous Mycobacteria, France, 2012‒2020.

We describe nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infections during 2012-2020 associated with health care and aesthetic procedures in France. We obtained epidemiologic data from the national early warning response system for healtcare-associated infections and data on NTM isolates from the National Reference Center for Mycobacteria. We compared clinical and environmental isolates by using whole-genome sequencing.

First Direct Detection Constraints on Planck-Scale Mass Dark Matter with Multiple-Scatter Signatures Using the DEAP-3600 Detector.

Dark matter with Planck-scale mass (≃10^{19}  GeV/c^{2}) arises in well-motivated theories and could be produced by several cosmological mechanisms. A search for multiscatter signals from supermassive dark matter was performed with a blind analysis of data collected over a 813 d live time with DEAP-3600, a 3.3 t single-phase liquid argon-based detector at SNOLAB.

The DEAP-3600 detector searches for the scintillation signal from dark matter particles scattering on a 3.3 tonne liquid argon target. The largest background comes from beta decays and is suppressed using pulse-shape discrimination (PSD).

Impact of a 24/7 multiplex-PCR on the management of patients with confirmed viral meningitis.

Here, we studied the impact of a 24/7 multiplex-PCR on the management of patients consulting in the emergency department for suspicion of community-acquired meningitis.
