Urethral calculus with a recurrent acute urinary retention in a male child aged 11 years: A case report.

Urolithiasis is the presence of a stone anywhere in the urinary tract, it is commonly seen in adult patients and rare in children, especially when it is associated with acute urinary retention. In children, history is not suggestive and not specific; diagnosis is made by exclusion, and imaging studies often get the findings as incidental. In this case, the clinical presentation made early diagnosis quite difficult.

Complex pelvic fracture with massive hemorrhage in low resource settings: Case report.

Pelvic fractures can range from simple, requiring almost no therapy, to complex, mandating the attention of the orthopedic surgeon, trauma surgeon, interventional radiologist, or other specialists because they are associated with multisystem injury and life-threatening hypotension. We present a 16-year-old male who presented with a complex pelvic fracture following a motor vehicle accidents that did not survive despite the efforts in resuscitation. In complex pelvic fracture with hemodynamic instability (hypotension persevered) and high index suspicion of bladder injury, there is an immediate need for operative intervention, regardless of negative/positive FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma).

Determining staffing needs for improving primary health care service delivery in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

The equitable distribution of a skilled health workforce is critical to health service delivery. Kaduna state has taken significant steps to revamp the primary health care system to ensure access to health care for its populace. However, these investments are yet to yield the desired outcomes due to health workforce shortages and the inequitable distribution of those available.

Prevalence of Pre-Diabetes, Diabetes and Associated Cardiovascular Risk Amongst Healthcare Workers in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria using Glycated Haemoglobin.

Background: There is a global rise in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes is a fore-runner to type-2 diabetes. Pre-diabetes is reversible, therefore, measures should be taken to halt or slow down its progression to frank diabetes.

Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of pre-diabetes and diabetes amongst staff of ABUTH, Zaria and identify some cardiovascular risks associated with them.

Trend of malaria cases in Kaduna State using routine surveillance data, 2011-2015.

Introduction: in 2015, 212 million malaria cases and 429,000 malaria deaths were estimated globally. Kaduna State, located in northern Nigeria had a malaria prevalence rate of 36.7% among children less than 5 years old which was higher than the national average of 27%.
