Multigene, genus-wide phylogenetic studies have uncovered the limited taxonomic resolution power of commonly used gene markers, particularly of rRNA genes, to discriminate closely related species of the nematode genus Heterorhabditis. In addition, conflicting tree topologies are often obtained using the different gene markers, which limits our understanding of the phylo- and co-phylogenetic relationships and biogeography of the entomopathogenic nematode genus Heterorhabditis. Here we carried out phylogenomic reconstructions using whole nuclear and mitochondrial genomes, and whole ribosomal operon sequences, as well as multiple phylogenetic reconstructions using various single nuclear and mitochondrial genes.

Five separate diets - beeswax (BW), glycerol (Gly), and three types of dog croquettes (DC1, DC2, and DC3) - were used to rear larvae of the greater wax moth, The larvae were later inoculated with five different isolates of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) emerging from the insect larvae reared on the five diets. This study revealed novel insights into the function of MSP18 effector during root-knot nematode parasitism in rice roots. The diversity of 43 bacterial strains isolated from Beninese entomopathogenic nematodes was investigated molecularly by analyzing the 16S rRNA, recA, and gyrB genes. Based on 16S rRNA sequence analysis, 15 bacterial strains were identified as Xenorhabdus sp., 27 strains as Photorhabdus sp.

The study evaluated effects of drought on some agro-morphological traits of 60 rice genotypes comprising 54 introgression lines with their parents, IR 64 (Oryza sativa) and TOG 5681 (Oryza glaberrima) and four NERICA-L varieties developed from the same parents for comparison. The genotypes were subjected either to full irrigation from sowing to maturity (control) or to 21-day drought applied by stopping irrigation from the 45th day after sowing (DAS) onward (drought) in the dry seasons of 2006 and 2007-2008. Plant height, spikelet fertility, grain yield and leaf area at harvesting were consistently reduced by drought in both seasons.
