A Case of an Oral Elastofibromatous Lesion: A Clinicopathological Analysis With a Literature Review.

Elastofibromatous changes of the oral mucosa, such as an elastofibroma (EF) or an elastofibromatous lesion (EFL), are not well recognized, and the second such case in Japan is reported. A 72-year-old man wearing a complete maxillary denture presented with a small nodule on the hard palate. Histopathological examination showed abundant fibrous tissue with numerous elastic fibers on Elastica van Gieson (EvG) staining.

Impact of Altered Graft Position During Living Donor Liver Retransplantation and its Outcomes.

Introduction: Liver retransplantation (reLT), which is the only treatment for liver graft failure, remains challenging not only because of its technical nature but also because it is performed in high-risk patients.

Methods: Nineteen patients who underwent reLT (second LT, n = 18; third LT, n = 1) between 1999 and 2021 were divided into two groups according to the graft laterality between prior transplantation and reLT (ipsilateral group, n = 9; contralateral group, n = 10). The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent living donor reLT and compared graft survival between ipsilateral and contralateral grafts.

Left Main Coronary Artery Ostial Stenosis Caused by Syphilitic Aortitis Presenting With Syncope.

A 51-year-old man with a history of antibiotic therapy for syphilis 1 month ago presented with syncope. Computed tomography revealed circumferential aortic wall thickening complicating severe stenosis of left main coronary ostium. Abnormalities in serologic and cerebrospinal fluid tests led to the diagnosis of syphilitic aortitis and neurosyphilis.

In Japan, high-quality cancer statistics are collected through cancer registries. However, these data are rarely summarized or reported in research articles. We compiled statistical data on lung cancer in Japan including the COVID-19 pandemic.
