The Relationship between Non-Native Perception and Phonological Patterning of Implosive Consonants.

This study uses non-native perception data to examine the relationship between perceived phonetic similarity of segments and their phonological patterning. Segments that are phonetically similar to one another are anticipated to pattern together phonologically, and segments that share articulatory or acoustic properties are also expected to be perceived as similar. What is not yet clear is whether segments that pattern together phonologically are perceived as similar.

Vitamin B12 and folic acid status of term pregnant women and newborns in the Antwerp region, Belgium.

Objective: Descriptive study on maternal serum vitamin B12 and folic acid in term pregnancy and in umbilical cord blood that was performed in an inner city hospital with a mixed ethnic population in the region of Flanders in Belgium.

Materials And Methods: A prospective cohort study that took place from April 1 until May 31, 2011. Plasma folic acid and vitamin B12 were measured in maternal and umbilical cord blood from all term uncomplicated deliveries in a single regional hospital.

Induction of cystic oviducts and protection against early challenge with infectious bronchitis virus serotype D388 (genotype QX) by maternally derived antibodies and by early vaccination.

Since the end of 2003, strains of the D388 serotype (QX genotype) of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) have caused considerable damage to the Dutch poultry industry. In order to better understand the pathogenesis of infection caused by this infectious bronchitis variant and to be able to support the poultry industry with substantiated advice to prevent or decrease the damage caused by the D388 strain, several vaccination and challenge experiments were performed in young specific pathogen free layers, young layers with maternally derived antibodies against the D388 strain and young commercial broiler breeders. The experiments confirmed the field observations that the D388 strain of the QX genotype is a very pathogenic strain that is able to cause cystic oviducts in a high percentage of birds, mortality due to nephritis and respiratory distress with complete tracheal ciliostasis and airsacculitis.

Manual or exercise therapy for long-standing adductor-related groin pain: a randomised controlled clinical trial.

Hypothesis: A multi-modal treatment program (MMT) is more effective than exercise therapy (ET) for the treatment of long-standing adductor-related groin pain.

Study Design: Single blinded, prospective, randomised controlled trial.

Patients: Athletes with pain at the proximal insertion of the adductor muscles on palpation and resisted adduction for at least two months.

A manual therapy technique for chronic adductor-related groin pain in athletes: a case series.

The objective was to retrospectively examine whether a manual therapy technique is effective in the treatment of chronic adductor-related groin pain in athletes. Thirty-three athletes with chronic adductor-related groin pain were approached. Thirty patients gave their consent to participate in the study.
