The membrane-proximal external region (MPER) of the HIV-1 envelope is a target for broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs), and vaccine-elicited MPER-directed antibodies have recently been reported from a human clinical trial. In this study, we sought to identify MPER-directed nAbs in simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-infected rhesus macaques. We isolated four lineages of SIV MPER-directed nAbs from two SIV-infected macaques.

Multidimensional variables linked to repetitive behavior, hyperactivity, and mood dysregulation are correlated with the prevalence and severity of self-injurious behavior (SIB) in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine differences in Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC) subscales between individuals with socially maintained SIB and automatically maintained SIB (ASIB). Overall, there were not significant differences in ABC subscale elevations between the SIB and ASIB groups.

Purpose: AIM-Back is an embedded pragmatic clinical trial (ePCT) with cluster randomization designed to increase access and compare the effectiveness of two different non-pharmacological care pathways for low back pain (LBP) delivered within the Veteran Administration Health Care System (VAHCS). This manuscript describes baseline characteristics of AIM-Back participants as well as the representativeness of those referred to the AIM-Back program by sex, age, race, and ethnicity, relative to Veterans with low back pain at participating clinics.

Participants: To be eligible for AIM-Back, Veterans were referred to the randomized pathway at their clinic by trained primary care providers (Referral cohort).

Research regarding the hematologic sequelae of estrogen and testosterone therapy for transgender people is an emerging area. While estrogen therapy has been widely studied in cisgender women, studies in transgender individuals are limited, revealing variable adverse effects influenced by the dose and formulation of estrogen used. Thrombotic risk factors in transgender and gender-diverse individuals are multifactorial, involving both modifiable and nonmodifiable factors.

Article Synopsis
  • Nanoporosity in geological formations allows for the movement and interaction of fluids and minerals, leading to unique properties of water confined within these tiny spaces.
  • In nanopores, the dielectric constant of water behaves differently, showing variations in permittivity based on its orientation relative to the pore walls, particularly when mixed with salts.
  • This study uses molecular dynamics simulations to explore how saline water’s dielectric properties change in calcite nanopores, finding that salinity has a minimal impact, thus allowing the application of pure water properties for understanding geochemical behaviors in natural nanoporous environments.
