Ministerial Approvals in 2021 clearly articulated for the first time the wide range of circumstances under which abortion in Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) is legal. These approvals likely reflect norms around abortion existent since the establishment of the Lao PDR in 1975: unregulated abortion is and remains illegal, but abortion that meets certain criteria is and has always been legal in Lao PDR. The legal status of abortion was fuzzy in practice until 2021, likely due to cultural factors.

Objective: To measure the prevalence, impact, and context of patients who remain hospitalized for prolonged periods after completion of acute care needs.
Design, Setting, And Participants: We conducted a cross-sectional "point-in-time" survey at each of 15 academic US hospitals using a structured data collection tool with on-service acute care medicine attending physicians in fall 2022.
Background: Delayed hospital and emergency department (ED) patient throughput, which occurs when demand for inpatient care exceeds hospital capacity, is a critical threat to safety, quality, and hospital financial performance. In response, many hospitals are deploying capacity command centers (CCCs), which co-locate key work groups and aggregate real-time data to proactively manage patient flow. Only a narrow body of peer-reviewed articles have characterized CCCs to date.

Departure lounges have been presented as an option to improve hospital throughput by providing a safe space for discharged patients to wait once medical and nursing care has been completed.

In interdisciplinary collaboration, nurse leaders and data scientists collaborated to develop advanced machine learning to support early proactive decisions to improve ability to accommodate demand. When hundreds or even thousands of forecasts are made, it becomes important to let machines do the hard work of mathematical pattern recognition, while efficiently using human feedback to address performance and accuracy problems.
