We report the present results of CUORICINO, a search for neutrinoless double-beta (0nu betabeta) decay of 130Te. The detector is an array of 62 TeO2 bolometers with a total active mass of 40.7 kg.

Hypothetical axionlike particles with a two-photon interaction would be produced in the sun by the Primakoff process. In a laboratory magnetic field ("axion helioscope"), they would be transformed into x-rays with energies of a few keV. Using a decommissioned Large Hadron Collider test magnet, the CERN Axion Solar Telescope ran for about 6 months during 2003.

The reaction of Mn(2)(CO)(7)(mu-S(2)) with [CpNi(CO)](2) yielded the paramagnetic new compound Cp(2)Ni(2)Mn(CO)(3)(mu(3)-S)(2) (1) and a new hexanuclear metal product Cp(2)Ni(2)Mn(4)(CO)(14)(mu(6)-S(2))(mu(3)-S)(2) (2). Structurally, compound 1 contains two triply bridging sulfido ligands on opposite sides of an open Ni(2)Mn triangular cluster. EPR and temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements of 1 show that it contains one unpaired electron.

A large body of evidence suggests that the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) can play an important role in ischemic neuronal injury. However any studies has been performed in hypoxic conditions. In the present experiments we studied using electron spin resonance (ESR) techniques the ROS release in neostriatum of newborn rats subjected to acute perinatal asphyxia (PA) followed by various periods of reoxygenation.

A modification of the Asakawa-Matsushita iodometric assay method for the determination of the content of lipid hydroperoxides was developed which permits the simultaneous processing of many samples of high lipid content. The method has the advantages of simplicity as well as good reproducibility, so it is not necessary to process standards with each determination. Our technique exceeds the sensitivity attained with other spectrophotometric determinations reported in the literature.
