Blood Pressure Pattern and Prevalence of Hypertension amongst Apparently Healthy Primary School Pupils in Abuja, Nigeria.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the blood pressure (BP) pattern and prevalence of hypertension amongst apparently healthy primary school pupils in Abuja.

Methodology: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study carried out on apparently healthy primary school children aged 6-12 years. BP was measured using a standard mercury sphygmomanometer according to standard guidelines.

An audit of a decade of acute peritoneal dialysis in children with acute kidney injury: A single-center experience.

Background: Acute peritoneal dialysis (PD) is the modality of choice to manage children with acute kidney injury (AKI). However, its use remains underutilized, despite the unquestionable advantages.

Aims: This study, therefore, aimed to audit the complications, outcomes, and challenges encountered with PD as well as indications for PD and causes of AKI among under-5 children that had PD in a Nigerian tertiary hospital over a decade.

A Case Report of Gene Mutation Alport Syndrome in 2 Native African Children.

Alport syndrome is a heterogeneous genetic disease involving the basement membrane of the glomeruli, inner ear, retina, and lens capsule. It typically manifests as progressive glomerulopathy that frequently results in end-stage renal disease, high-tone sensorineural deafness, and ocular abnormalities of anterior lenticonus and yellow and white dots and flecks on the macular of the retina. In this report, we describe the cases of 2 siblings: 15- and 13-year-old boys of pure African descent with the gene mutation.

Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography Imaging Studies in Children with Sickle Cell Anaemia in a Tertiary Hospital, Abuja, Nigeria.

Background: Stroke risk in sickle cell anaemia (SCA) can be detected by abnormalities of cerebral blood flow velocities (CBFV), measurable by Transcranial Doppler Imaging (TCDI) ultrasonography. This has become an important strategy in the routine care of children with SCA globally.

Objectives: To determine the pattern of CBFV and document the proportion of children with SCA at risk of stroke at National Hospital Abuja (NHA), Nigeria using TCDI.
