The crucian carp (Carassius carassius Linnaeus, 1758) is a declining native European cyprinid, inhabiting small water bodies, primariliy threatened by climate change, anthropogenic impacts and invasive relative the Prussian carp. Despite conservation efforts across Europe, data on Carphatian Basin populations remain scarce. This study analyzed nine natural populations (257 individuals) in Hungary using thirteen microsatellite markers and mitochondrial DNA COI sequencing (187 individuals).

The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident in 2011, triggered by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, released a substantial amount of radionuclides into the environment, including approximately 2.7 PBq of Cs and 200-210 TBq of tritium (H). While extensive research has reported Cs concentrations across various environmental media, data on H levels in water resources immediately following the accident remain limited.

: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality globally. To reduce the prevalence of NCDs, the World Health Organization issued guidelines for a healthy lifestyle, which have been adopted in various countries. Our study aimed to evaluate the dietary habits of the ethnic Hungarian population of Romania, allowing us to identify potential differences in nutritional behavior compared to the country's general population.

In the present investigation, high stability Vitreloy ZrTiCuNiBe bulk metallic glass has been subjected to severe shear deformation by high-pressure torsion for 0.1 revolutions under an applied pressure of 4 and 8 GPa. The fully glassy nature of the as-cast glass has been confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry.

Antigen specific humoral immunity can be characterized by the analysis of serum antibodies. While serological assays for the measurement of specific antibody levels are available, these are not quantitative in the biochemical sense. Yet, understanding humoral immune responses quantitatively on the systemic level would need a universal, complete, quantitative, comparable measurement method of antigen specific serum antibodies of selected immunoglobulin classes.

High-performance magnetic materials based on rare-earth intermetallic compounds are critical for energy conversion technologies. However, the high cost and supply risks of rare-earth elements necessitate the development of affordable alternatives. Another challenge lies in the inherent brittleness of current magnets, which limits their applications for high dynamic mechanical loading conditions during service and complex shape design during manufacturing towards high efficiency and sustainability.

Objective: Although retransplantation is the main therapeutic option for end-stage chronic lung allograft dysfunction, several transplant centers consider the "restrictive allograft syndrome" phenotype a contraindication. This selection policy is based on a limited body of literature. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of chronic lung allograft dysfunction phenotypes according to new chronic lung allograft dysfunction definitions with outcomes after retransplantation.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the association between demographic characteristics and patient-reported experiences (PREs) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in individuals living with diabetes, using the Swedish National Diabetes Register questionnaire. The study sought to understand how baseline attributes such as age, gender, and education affect patients' experiences and management of diabetes.

Methods: We used a cross-sectional survey approach with 544 patients diagnosed as having type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus at the University of Pécs.

Introduction: Light exposure of embryos during assisted reproduction affects embryo quality and implantation capacity in a wavelength dependent manner. We investigated the molecular mechanism of these light-induced changes through the comparative analysis of gene expression and regulatory miRNA profile of murine embryos cultured in dark environment and those exposed to white- or red filtered light. miRNA sequencing was used to assess the role of embryo-derived extracellular vesicles in the endometrium-embryo dialogue.

Mature male sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) primarily inhabit high latitude regions, travelling to tropical/temperate waters for breeding, where females and juveniles reside in cohesive social groups. Though mating is known to occur at low latitudes, the timing, duration, and routes of adult male migrations between feeding and breeding areas are poorly known. To study movement patterns of adult male sperm whales, 29 individuals were equipped with satellite transmitters in the Northeast Atlantic Arctic (69-79°N).

Background: Considering the role PARPs play in inflammation, we assessed the effect of PARP inhibition in an inflammatory skin condition, psoriasis, to explore novel avenues for the potential repurposing of PARP inhibitors that are currently used in tumour therapy.

Methods: The imiquimod (IMQ)-induced model of psoriasis was applied in BALB/c mice. Mice received daily intraperitoneal injection of either one of four PARP inhibitors or their vehicle prior to treatment of the shaved back skin of mice with IMQ-containing cream or control cream for four days.

Introduction: Abnormalities of keratinocyte differentiation and impairment of permeability barrier are features of inflammatory skin diseases driven by Th1/Th17 and Th2 immune response, such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. We aimed at identifying the signature of the Th1/Th17 and Th2 environments on keratinocytes, focusing on the expression of genes involved in the lipid metabolism and profiles of abundance of lipid metabolites.

Methods: Human immortalized keratinocytes in prodifferentiative conditions induced by increasing calcium concentration, and 3D epidermal equivalents were treated with mixtures either of TNF-α and IL-17A plus Th1-related cytokines (IL-1α, IL-6) or of Th2 cytokines (IL-4, IL-13).

Spatiotemporal environmental heterogeneity is a major evolutionary driver, which can cause profound phylogeographic complexity, particularly at the periphery of species ranges. Ringed seals display a highly disjoint distribution, occurring in high abundance throughout the circumpolar Arctic, as well as in the Baltic Sea, Lake Saimaa and Lake Ladoga. These relict Fennoscandian ringed seals were traditionally regarded as originating from a single colonisation event after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), but recent studies have challenged this perception.

Binge alcohol use is increasing among aged adults (>65 years). Alcohol-related toxicity in aged adults is associated with neurodegeneration, yet the molecular underpinnings of this age-related sensitivity to alcohol are not well described. Studies utilizing rodent models of neurodegenerative disease reveal heightened activation of Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) and Nod like receptor 3 (NLRP3) mediate microglia activation and associated neuronal injury.

Human dental enamel is a uniquely hard and tough biological realization of the inherently brittle apatite crystal. In sound enamel both structure and chemistry are organically fine-tuned, while developmental disorders - such as hypomineralization - often lead to severe enamel alterations resulting in weaker mechanical performance and shorter lifetime as in case of molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) which has a global prevalence of 13.5 %.

Background: The chromatographic measurement of polar molecules is often surprisingly complicated. On the one hand, the standard experiments use C18 columns, which is usually unsuitable. On the other hand, these types of molecules can behave vastly differently despite their similarities.

Data on the use of the wearable cardioverter defibrillator (WCD) among patients after cardiac implantable electronic device explantation of 1- to 3-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator systems (ICD) are sparse. Accordingly, several guidelines give a different recommendation regarding WCD indication in this cohort. We aimed to study the baseline characteristics and outcome of patients treated with WCD after ICD explantation.

Since soil spectroscopy is considered to be a fast, simple, accurate and non-destructive analytical method, its application can be integrated with wet analysis as an alternative. Therefore, development of national-level soil spectral libraries containing information about all soil types represented in a country is continuously increasing to serve as a basis for calibrated predictive models capable of assessing physical and chemical parameters of soils at multiple spatial scales. In this article, we present a database containing laboratory and visible-near infrared spectral data of legacy soil samples from the Hungarian Soil Degradation Observation System (HSDOS).
