The herd-level prevalence of caprine arthritis-encephalitis and genetic characteristics of small ruminant lentivirus in the Lithuanian goat population.

Caprine arthritis-encephalitis (CAE) is a progressive disease of goats caused by small ruminant lentivirus (SRLV) and is considered as one of the most important threats for goat farming in developed countries. The disease prevalence has never been investigated in the Lithuanian goat population. Therefore, a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 2021-2022 to determine if SRLV infection was present in the Lithuanian goat population and, in the case of a positive result, to estimate the true herd-level prevalence of SRLV infection and specify genotypes and subtypes of SRLV responsible for the infection.

Comparison of the exploratory behaviour of wild and laboratory mouse species.

In this study, we compared the exploratory behaviour of mound-building mice (Mus spicilegus) and house mice (Mus musculus) with domesticated laboratory mouse strains (BALB/c and C57BL/6). The animals spent 15 minutes in the furnished test box before the exit to the outside world became free. During the 5-minute test, it was noted whether the animal left the familiar environment; if it did, it was recorded in how many seconds.

Systematic review and quality assessment of clinical and economic evidence for superabsorbent wound dressings in a population with chronic ulcers.

Effective exudate management is key for optimal ulcer healing. Superabsorbent dressings are designed to have high fluid handling capacity, reduced risk of exudate leakage, fluid retention under compression, and to sequester harmful exudate components. This study aimed to systematically identify existing evidence for the clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness of superabsorbent dressings for the treatment of moderate-to-highly exudating chronic ulcers of various etiologies.

Although physicians and psychophysiologists are active on the field, still we are far from a complete knowledge, despite the fact that scientists like the Hungarian Professor György Ádám already had initiated a new approach called visceral psychophysiology already a long time ago. In this article, we commemorate Professor Ádám by analyzing one of the most frequent functional disorders, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), calling psychophysiology for help.

Comparative life-cycle sustainability assessment of centralized and decentralized remediation strategies at the city level.

Remediation of contaminated soil at industrial sites has become a challenge and an opportunity for sustainable urban land use, considering the substantial secondary impacts resulting from remediation activities. The design of soil remediation strategies for multi-site remediation from a regional perspective is of great significance for cities with a large number of brownfields. Centralized and decentralized facilities have been studied in different environmental fields, yet limited research has focused on centralized soil remediation, specifically the treatment of contaminated soil from different sites through the construction of shared soil treatment facilities.

Methods: ADA were assessed at baseline and throughout the study until end point, defined as week 40 (SURPASS-1, -2, and -5) or week 52 (SURPASS-3, -4, Japan-Mono, and Japan-Combo).

Photoinhibitive Properties of α-MoO on Its Composites with TiO, ZnO, BiOI, AgBr, and CuO.

Orthorhombic molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO) is well known as a photocatalyst, adsorbent, and inhibitor during methyl orange photocatalytic degradation via TiO. Therefore, besides the latter, other active photocatalysts, such as AgBr, ZnO, BiOI, and CuO, were assessed via the degradation of methyl orange and phenol in the presence of α-MoO using UV-A- and visible-light irradiation. Even though α-MoO could be used as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst, our results demonstrated that its presence in the reaction medium strongly inhibits the photocatalytic activity of TiO, BiOI, CuO, and ZnO, while only the activity AgBr is not affected.

Cellular FXIII in Human Macrophage-Derived Foam Cells.

Macrophages express the A subunit of coagulation factor XIII (FXIII-A), a transglutaminase which cross-links proteins through Nε-(γ-L-glutamyl)-L-lysyl iso-peptide bonds. Macrophages are major cellular constituents of the atherosclerotic plaque; they may stabilize the plaque by cross-linking structural proteins and they may become transformed into foam cells by accumulating oxidized LDL (oxLDL). The combination of oxLDL staining by Oil Red O and immunofluorescent staining for FXIII-A demonstrated that FXIII-A is retained during the transformation of cultured human macrophages into foam cells.

Particle size reduction is a commonly used process to improve the solubility and the dissolution of drug formulations. The solubility of a drug in the gastrointestinal tract is a crucial parameter, because it can greatly influence the bioavailability. This work provides a comprehensive investigation of the effect of the particle size, pH, biorelevant media and polymers (PVA and PVPK-25) on the solubility and dissolution of drug formulations using three model compounds with different acid-base characteristics (papaverine hydrochloride, furosemide and niflumic acid).

Objective: To evaluate potential variation in the euploid blastocyst rate and live birth rate (LBR) per single frozen euploid blastocyst transfer, among 4 unique United States reproductive genetics laboratories. Here we attempt to examine diet quality and adherence to food based dietary guidelines among Hungarian Roma (HR) ethnic minority living in segregated settlements while comparing a sample of Hungarian adults from the general population (HG). Data were obtained from a complex comparative health survey conducted in Northeast Hungary in 2018, including sociodemographic and physical examination data.

Voluntary military service for Hungarian people who have lost their job due to the COVID-19 pandemic - A qualitative study.

This qualitative study deals with the military service of people who have lost their job due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to its basic tasks, the Hungarian Defence Forces has been the first to get involved in the Hungarian Government's Economy Protection Action Plan by creating jobs for unemployed citizens. The study was conducted among those who had signed up for the temporarily created special volunteer reservist service aiming to find out what motivated them to choose the military career and what their future ambitions are.

Plasma factor XIII (pFXIII) is a heterotetramer of FXIII-A and FXIII-B subunits. The cellular form (cFXIII), a dimer of FXIII-A, is present in a number of cell types. Objective: To provide a review of challenges in clinical trials for the preventive treatment of cluster headache (CH) and highlight considerations for future studies.

Background: Current guidelines for preventive treatment of CH are largely based on off-label therapies supported by a limited number of small randomized controlled trials. Guidelines for clinical trial design for CH treatments from the International Headache Society were last issued in 1995.

Unusual presentation of atraumatic insufficiency pelvic fractures unmasking pregnancy-related osteoporosis: A case report.

We describe the case of a young 27-year-old Caucasian female who presented in the third trimester of her first pregnancy with sudden and severe suprapubic and left-sided hip pain without history of trauma. She was eventually diagnosed with two insufficiency fractures of the pelvis. The underlying diagnosis was pregnancy-related osteoporosis.

Military carrier choice during the Covid-19 pandemic in Hungary.

Covid-19 pandemic has changed availability of reasonable jobs. To avoid joblessness, many young adults selected military service in Hungary. The aim of this research was to study their motivation, their individual needs and the way they think about the military forces.
