The surgical procedure detailed in this case report focuses on the treatment of a large cardiac hydatid cyst located in the intraventricular septum. The surgical intervention comprised a comprehensive approach involving a median sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass. A localized mass below the tricuspid valve at the basal region of the interventricular septum was revealed.

Cerebral cortex development in humans is a highly complex and orchestrated process that is under tight genetic regulation. Rare mutations that alter gene expression or function can disrupt the structure of the cerebral cortex, resulting in a range of neurological conditions. Lissencephaly ('smooth brain') spectrum disorders comprise a group of rare, genetically heterogeneous congenital brain malformations commonly associated with epilepsy and intellectual disability.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on detecting multijet signatures from proton-proton collisions at a high energy of 13 TeV, analyzing a dataset totaling 128 fb^{-1}.
  • A special data scouting method is utilized to pick out events with low combined momentum in jets.
  • This research is pioneering in its investigation of electroweak particle production in R-parity violating supersymmetric models, particularly examining hadronically decaying mass-degenerate higgsinos, and it broadens the limits on the existence of R-parity violating top squarks and gluinos.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

The first search for the Z boson decay to ττμμ at the CERN LHC is presented, based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1}. The data are compatible with the predicted background. For the first time, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level of 6.

We aimed to assess the perioperative, oncological, and functional outcomes of patients aged 70 years or older following retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN) and compare their results with younger patients. A retrospective review of our prospectively maintained database identified 329 patients who underwent retroperitoneal LPN from January 2013 to October 2022. The patients divided into 2 groups defined by age ≥70 or <70 years at the time of surgery.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of obesity on clinical outcomes in diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) patients undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles. In this retrospective observational cross-sectional study, women admitted to current clinic with DOR undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection were divided into 2 groups according to the obesity. Patient age, body mass index, anti-mullerian hormone, baseline follicle stimulating hormone and baseline estradiol levels, antral follicle count, total gonadotropin dose, day of stimulation, number of mature (MII) oocytes, and clinical pregnancy were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines factors contributing to empty follicle syndrome (EFS) in patients with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) undergoing intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
  • Researchers analyzed data from patients divided into two groups based on the presence of empty follicles at oocyte retrieval, focusing on variables like age, BMI, hormone levels, and treatment specifics.
  • Findings identified increased BMI, low AMH, high baseline FSH, low baseline AFC, high gonadotropin dosage, and extended ovulation induction time as independent risk factors for EFS in this population.

Purpose: Hypoxia and sleep fragmentations that develop during sleep cause central nervous system damage in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This study investigates the relationship between OSA severity and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and c-Fos, which are considered indicators of neuronal damage.

Methods: The study included 84 participants (70 patients with OSA and 14 healthy individuals).

Background/aim: To present the incidence of recurrent lumbar disc herniation (RLDH) and to identify radiological and patient-related risk factors that lead to recurrence after lumbar disc herniation (LDH) treatment with microdiscectomy.

Materials And Methods: Between January 2013 and December 2021, 1214 patients who had undergone microdiscectomy for LDH were included in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into two groups, the recurrent group and the non-recurrent group, and their demographic, clinical and radiologic characteristics were recorded.

  • The study looked at how parental smoking might affect the chances of children getting cancer, focusing on the differences between cancer patients and healthy kids.
  • Researchers used hair tests and surveys to check tobacco exposure in 104 cancer patients and 99 healthy kids.
  • They found that while dads of cancer patients reported smoking less, hair tests showed those same patients were actually exposed to more secondhand smoke than healthy kids, suggesting that surveys can sometimes give the wrong picture.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on analyzing the CT and MR imaging characteristics of intracranial extra-axial chondromas in six patients, highlighting their distinct appearances based on location.
  • The researchers found that frontal chondromas typically showed calcification and mixed signals on imaging, while cavernous sinus chondromas displayed bone erosion and intense hyperintensity on T2-weighted images without calcification.
  • The study concludes that while there are various imaging features, specific traits like absence of restricted diffusion and distinct signal patterns can suggest the presence of an intracranial chondroma, aiding in diagnosis.

Objective: This study aims to provide effective treatment by comparing the venous recanalization responses of oral anticoagulants in deep vein thrombosis therapy.

Methods: From January 2013 to March 2019, a retrospective analysis was conducted on 109 patients who had been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and received treatment with apixaban, rivaroxaban, or warfarin within 1 week of symptom onset. Demographic, clinical data, and venous recanalization responses on Doppler ultrasonography of the patients that were followed-up 1 year from the date of diagnosis were evaluated.

Unlabelled: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: It was previously reported that perceived external locus of control may exacerbate depressive symptoms, is associated with anxiety, boosts stress and general mental distress and weakens resilience against traumatic situations or difficulties. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Those with a higher external locus of control are more prone to develop PTSD symptoms since the perceived external locus of control is among the predictors of PTSD. An internal locus of control is considered important in preventing PTSD, although an external locus of control appears to be a variable that causes/increases the prevalence of PTSD.

Objective: Primary debulking surgery has been the preferred surgical route and is still considered a quality indicator for advanced ovarian cancer surgery. However, a significant number of patients are not amenable to upfront surgery. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and interval debulking surgery may be the most suitable approach for this group.

  • The study aims to explore the significance of omental disease and assess the impact of omentectomy in managing non-endometrioid endometrial cancers (non-EEC).
  • It analyzed 203 patients who had surgical treatment at a gynecologic oncology center, categorizing them based on omentectomy and omental metastasis presence to compare various clinical characteristics and survival outcomes.
  • Results indicated that patients without omental metastases had significantly better 5-year disease-free survival and overall survival rates compared to those with metastases, suggesting that omentectomy might not be beneficial for non-EEC patients.
