The long-term ecological dynamics of a population inhabiting a seasonal environment is analyzed using a semi-discrete or impulsive system to represent the consumer-resource interaction. The resource corresponds to an incoming energy flow for consumers that is allocated to reproduction as well as to maintenance in each non-reproductive season. The energy invested in these life-history functions is used in reproductive events, determining the size of the offspring in each reproductive season.

Growing interest in the clinical use of cannabidiol (CBD) as adjuvant therapy for pediatric refractory epileptic encephalopathy emphasizes the need for drug treatment optimization. The aim of this study was to characterize the pharmacokinetics of CBD in pediatric patients with refractory epileptic encephalopathy receiving an oil-based oral solution. Plants possess a robust metabolic network for sensing and controlling reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels upon stress conditions. Evidence shown here supports a role for TGA class II transcription factors as critical regulators of genes controlling ROS levels in the tolerance response to UV-B stress in Arabidopsis. First, tga256 mutant plants showed reduced capacity to scavenge H2O2 and restrict oxidative damage in response to UV-B, and also to methylviologen-induced photooxidative stress.

Ezh2 is a catalytic subunit of the polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2) which mediates epigenetic gene silencing through depositing the mark histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) at target genomic sequences. Previous studies have demonstrated that Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2 (Ezh2) was differentially expressed during maturation of hippocampal neurons; in immature neurons, Ezh2 was abundantly expressed, whereas in mature neurons the expression Ezh2 was significantly reduced. Here, we report that Ezh2 is downregulated by microRNAs (miRs) that are expressed during the hippocampal maturation process.

The dentate gyrus and hippocampal area CA3 region of the mammalian brain contains the highest levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its canonical membrane receptor, tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB). Therefore, the present study examines the expression and physiological responses triggered by activation of TrkB on hippocampal area CA3 interneurones and pyramidal cells of the rat hippocampus. Triple immunolabelling for TrkB, glutamate decarboxylase 67, and the calcium-binding proteins parvalbumin, calbindin or calretinin confirms the somatic expression of TrkB in all CA3 sublayers.

This paper presents the development process of a robust and ROS-based Drive-By-Wire system designed for an autonomous electric vehicle from scratch over an open source chassis. A revision of the vehicle characteristics and the different modules of our navigation architecture is carried out to put in context our Drive-by-Wire system. The system is composed of a Steer-By-Wire module and a Throttle-By-Wire module that allow driving the vehicle by using some commands of lineal speed and curvature, which are sent through a local network from the control unit of the vehicle.

The intensity of sucrose (its perceived concentration) and its palatability (positive hedonic valence associated with ingestion) are two taste attributes that increase its attractiveness and overconsumption. Although both sensory attributes covary, in that increases in sucrose concentration leads to similar increases in its palatability, this covariation does not imply that they are part of the same process or whether they represent separate processes. CD34+ stromal cells/telocytes (CD34+SCs/TCs) can have a role as mesenchymal precursor cells. Our objective is to assess whether the myofibroblastic stromal cell response in repair and in desmoplastic reactions in tumors depend on the presence or absence of resident CD34+SCs/TCs in specific regions/layers of an organ and on the location of their possible subpopulations. The clean activation of methane at low temperatures remains an eminent challenge and a field of competitive research. In particular, on late transition metal surfaces such as Pt(111) or Ni(111), higher temperatures are necessary to activate the hydrocarbon molecule, but a massive deposition of carbon makes the metal surface useless for catalytic activity. However, on very low-loaded M/CeO (M = Pt, Ni, or Co) surfaces, the dissociation of methane occurs at room temperature, which is unexpected considering simple linear scaling relationships.
