Dental caries experience and its impact on quality of life in Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Robust epidemiological data allow for logical interventions taken in the interest of public health. Dental caries is a major public health problem driven by increased sugar consumption and various biological, behavioral, and psychosocial factors, and is known to strongly affect an individual's quality of life. This study aims to critically review epidemiological data on the prevalence of dental caries in Latin American and Caribbean countries (LACC) and its impact on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of the population.

Inclusion of initial caries lesions in a population-based sample of Brazilian preschool children: Impact on estimates and treatment needs.

This study aimed to assess changes in epidemiological estimates and treatment needed when initial caries lesions are included in a population-based survey of preschool children. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a Brazilian municipality, collecting data of preschool children in 16 health centers. Caries detection used the merged codes (epi-codes) for ICDAS/ICCMS.

Dental Pain in Preschool Children Using the Brazilian Dental Discomfort Questionnaire and its Association with Dental Caries and Socioeconomic Factors.

To assess the prevalence of dental pain in preschool children through the Brazilian Dental Discomfort Questionnaire (DDQ-B) and its association with dental caries, its severity, and socioeconomic factors. The study included 485 three- to four-year-olds who attended the National Day of Children's Vaccination in São Paulo, Brazil. Parents answered the DDQ-B and questions of socioeconomic conditions.

Trends in the prevalence of traumatic crown injuries and associated factors in Brazilian preschool children: 10-year observational data.

Objective: To assess trends in the prevalence of traumatic crown injuries (TCI) in children aged 1-4 years living in Diadema city (Brazil) and to investigate whether TCI were associated with socio-demographic and clinical variables.

Methods: Six cross-sectional surveys with representative samples were carried out from 2002 to 2012 following the same criteria and methodology. A total of 6389 children were evaluated and systematically selected on the National Children's Vaccination day.

Background: Few studies assessed the impact of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) and malocclusions on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in preschool children.

Aim: To assess the impact of the presence of TDI and malocclusions, as well as its severity and types, respectively, on the OHRQoL of preschool children.

Design: The study was conducted in 1215 children aged 1-4 years old who attended the National Day of Children Vaccination in Diadema, Brazil.

Impact of dental caries on preschool children's quality of life: an update.

The literature reports that dental caries can cause functional, physical and aesthetic impairment, often with repercussions on children's general health at an early age. Moreover, recent studies have investigated how caries lesions can compromise children's quality of life. This paper aims to describe the current situation of dental caries prevalence in children and how this oral health disease can impact their quality of life.
