The transforming growth factors beta (TGFβ) are local factors produced by ovarian cells which, after binding to their receptors, regulate follicular deviation and ovulation. However, their regulation and function during corpus luteum (CL) regression has been poorly investigated. The present study evaluated the mRNA regulation of some TGFβ family ligands and their receptors in the bovine CL during induced luteolysis .

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) was activated in granulosa cells during follicle atresia, whereas AKT is immediately down-regulated in the corpus luteum after PGF treatment in cattle; however, their involvement in both functional and morphological luteolysis in monovular species still need to be determined. Blood samples and corpus lutea were collected from cows before (0) and 2, 12, 24, and 48 hr after PGF treatment on Day 10 of the estrous cycle (4-5 cows per time point).

The (pro)renin receptor protein was detected in bovine cumulus-oocyte complexes, theca cells, granulosa cells, and in the corpus luteum.

We used an FSH-induced co-dominance model to determine the effect of FSH on signalling pathways in granulosa cells of the second-largest follicles (SF in control cows and co-dominant follicle (co-DF2) in FSH-treated cows). The SF was smaller than DF in control cows while diameters of co-DF1 and co-DF2 in FSH-treated cows were similar.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFollicle development is coordinated by gonadotropins, steroids, and growth factors, which activate multiple signaling pathways. Phosphorylated-MAPK (pMAPK) level was indicated as an early marker of follicle dominance, whereas phosphorylated STAT3 (pSTAT3) was increased in granulosa cells of hypophysectomized rats. We hypothesized that MAPK3/1 and STAT3 pathways are regulated in granulosa cells during follicle deviation in cattle.

However, the mechanisms involved in E2 signaling are not completely understood. The objectives in this study were to evaluate the expression of estrogen receptors (ESRs) during follicular selection in cattle, and the effect of intrafollicular injection of fulvestrant (an antagonist of ESRs) on follicular development and transcript abundance in granulosa cells.

However, some methods of castration are traumatic and lead to economic losses because of infection and myiasis. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the efficiency of intratesticular injection (ITI) of hypertonic sodium chloride (NaCl; 20%) solution in male calf castration during the first weeks of life.

Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the presence of Neospora caninum DNA obtained from experimental models based on the evaluation of different areas of the fetal nervous system and organs from heifers previously inoculated with NC-1 after or before insemination. This study was performed with Hereford × Nelore (n=29) heifers and all animals were considered free of diseases at the beginning of the experiment.

Kallikreins use kininogen (KNG) as substrate to generate bradykinin, the main active peptide of the KKS that acts through two types of receptors, the B(1)R and the B(2)R. The goal of this study was to characterize some components of the KKS in different compartments of the ovary during the bovine ovulation process.
