Some of this methane can be oxidized by methanotrophic bacteria and assimilated into their biomass before reaching the atmosphere. With the growing necessity of achieving carbon neutrality in the industrial sector, the catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into methanol has been widely considered one of the key strategies for the utilization of captured CO. For this reason, the development of alternative catalysts such as ZnZrO has attracted considerable interest, given its superior stability and versatility in comparison to the conventional Cu-based materials. In this work, ZnZrO has been produced by a hydrothermal synthesis method at varied synthesis pH between 7 and 10 and a positive association between pH and catalytic CO conversion is observed.

Here, as proof of concept, we searched for viral remnants in sequence reads of Neanderthal genome data by mapping to adenovirus, herpesvirus and papillomavirus, which are double-stranded DNA viruses that may establish lifelong latency and can produce persistent infections. The reconstructed ancient viral genomes of adenovirus, herpesvirus and papillomavirus revealed conserved segments, with nucleotide identity to extant viral genomes and variable regions in coding regions with substantial divergence to extant close relatives.

Background: Despite multimodal therapy, 5-year overall survival for locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is about 50%. We assessed the addition of pembrolizumab to concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced HNSCC.
Methods: In the randomised, double-blind, phase 3 KEYNOTE-412 trial, participants with newly diagnosed, high-risk, unresected locally advanced HNSCC from 130 medical centres globally were randomly assigned (1:1) to pembrolizumab (200 mg) plus chemoradiotherapy or placebo plus chemoradiotherapy.
Considering the alarming scenario of climate change, CO hydrogenation to methanol is considered a key process for phasing out fossil fuels by means of CO utilization. In this context, MoS catalysts have recently shown to be promising catalysts for this reaction, especially in the presence of abundant basal-plane sulfur vacancies and due to synergistic mechanisms with other phases. In this work, Mn-promoted MoS prepared by a hydrothermal method presents considerable selectivity for CO hydrogenation to methanol in comparison with pure MoS and other promoters such as K and Co.

Methods: This multicentric prospective cohort study included hospitalized adult patients with a microbiologically confirmed infection treated with ceftazidime-avibactam for ≥48 hours. The clinical and microbiological risk factors for 30-day mortality were evaluated using a Cox regression model.

Sepsis is one of the major complications of surgery resulting in high morbidity and mortality, but there are no specific therapies for sepsis-induced organ dysfunction. Data obtained under Gene Expression Omnibus accession GSE131761 were re-analyzed and showed an increased gene expression of Janus Kinase 2 (JAK2) and Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) in the whole blood of post-operative septic patients. Based on these results, we hypothesized that JAK/STAT activation may contribute to the pathophysiology of septic shock and, hence, investigated the effects of baricitinib (JAK1/JAK2 inhibitor) on sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction and multiple-organ failure (MOF).

This study aimed to analyze clinicopathological characteristics and survival of patients with GIST in a reference institution for oncological diseases.
Methods: An observational, longitudinal, and retrospective study of patients diagnosed with GIST from January 2011 to January 2020 was carried out by analyzing epidemiological and clinical variables, staging, surgical resection, recurrence, use of imatinib, and curves of overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS).
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate (a) macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) levels in polytrauma patients and rats after haemorrhagic shock (HS), (b) the potential of the MIF inhibitor ISO-1 to reduce multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) in acute (short-term and long-term follow-up) HS rat models and (c) whether treatment with ISO-1 attenuates NF-κB and NLRP3 activation in HS.
Background: The MODS caused by an excessive systemic inflammatory response following trauma is associated with a high morbidity and mortality. MIF is a pleiotropic cytokine which can modulate the inflammatory response, however, its role in trauma is unknown.
Composting is one of the main processes of stabilization of sewage sludge and its association with cultivation in this residue has a great potential to produce stabilized organic fertilizer and, or substrate for plant development. The aim of this work was to evaluate the physical, chemical, and microbial attributes of sewage sludge (SS) aerated and cultivated with Pennisetum purpureum or Urochloa brizantha and, later, composted.
