The Study of Coagulation Parameters in Polytrauma Patients and Their Effects on Outcome.

Background: Mortality from trauma remains a major public health issue as it is the leading cause of death in persons aged 5 - 44 years. There is a dearth of information on polytrauma from developing countries such as ours. Hence, this topic was studied at our institute.

Seroprevalence of transfusion transmitted infections in healthy blood donors: A 5-year Tertiary Care Hospital experience.

Introduction: Transfusion transmitted infections (TTIs) can cause threat to bloody safety as blood transfusion is an important mode of transmission of TTI to the recipient, hence, to prevent transmission of these diseases, screening tests on blood bags is an important step for blood safety.

Aim: This study was undertaken with the aim of determining the seroprevalence of TTI in healthy blood donors in a tertiary care blood bank.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was carried out over a period of 5 years from January 2007 to December 2011.

Autopsy study of febrile deaths during monsoon at a tertiary care institute in India: Is malaria still a challenge?

Background: To utilise an autopsy-based approach to study the febrile deaths and deaths due to malaria during monsoon period of three years at a tertiary care teaching hospital in Mumbai, India.

Materials And Methods: All autopsies done at the hospital during monsoon period from 2005 to 2007 when fever was the main presenting symptom were included in the study. Monsoon period was defined from June to September.

Evolution of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome.

Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is a very important cause of cerebral infarction, myocardial infarction, and repeated pregnancy losses in women. We present an extremely rare case of a 44-year-old man with antiphospholipid syndrome who collapsed and died suddenly. At autopsy, he was found to have both cerebral and myocardial infarction.

Occult medullary carcinoma of thyroid with lymph node metastases: a case report.

Background: Occult thyroid malignancies presenting with secondary neck masses as the first clinical manifestation is well known. Although rare, medullary carcinoma serves a potential source for lymph node metastases. The characteristic cytomorphology of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) should clinch the diagnosis.

Outcome of quadriceps tendon repair.

Complete rupture of the quadriceps tendon is a well-described injury. There is a scarcity of literature relating to the outcome of patients with this injury after surgery. We undertook a retrospective analysis of patients who had surgical repair of their quadriceps tendon at our institution over a 13-year period, totalling 21 patients.
