Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) due to ectopic parathyroid adenoma is a rare case of hypercalcemia in the pediatric population. Herein, a rare case of PHPT due to ectopic intrathymic parathyroid adenoma was described in an asymptomatic 15-year-old girl who had incidental diagnosis based on laboratory abnormalities but experienced a 3-month postoperative course of persistently elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) and hypercalcemia following the initial unsuccessful parathyroidectomy operation carried out in a non-parathyroid expert center. The curative surgical treatment was accomplished only after the patient was reoperated with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy by the surgeon experienced in parathyroid surgery with implementation of the combined imaging modalities for accurate localization of ectopic adenoma including 99mTc sestamibi (MIBI) plus neck and thoracic computed tomography (CT) and the appropriate surgical strategies including intraoperative intact PTH monitoring and frozen section diagnosis.

Background: Monitoring biochemical parameters to detect early complications after liver transplantation (LT) is important. Thus, we aimed to investigate parameter trends indicating liver function in patients who did not develop complications after cadaveric LT.

Methods: A total of 266 cadaveric LT operations performed by a single center between 2007-2022 were included in the study.

Background: Cholecystectomy is routinely performed during living donor hepatectomy both to see the structure of the biliary tract and to determine the demarcation line based on the biliary tract junction. This study aims to present the general histopathological features of the gallbladder specimen obtained from living liver donors (LLD).

Methods: Data from 2577 LLDs who underwent living donor hepatectomy (n = 2511) or aborted living donor hepatectomy (n = 66) in our Liver Transplantation Institute between September 2005 and June 2021 were analyzed retrospectively.

Objectives: Portal vein thrombosis is no longer a contraindication for liver transplantation. However, varied outcomes are still reported with regard to patients with complete portal vein thrombosis.

Materials And Methods: We analyzed data of 505 patients who underwent liver transplant between January 2014 and June 2017.

Background: Despite technical developments in transplantation surgery, complete portal vein thrombosis still remains a challenge for restoration of adequate portal vein inflow. Renoportal or varicoportal anastomosis provides an effective alternative solution for patients with complete portal vein thrombosis. This study describes our experience with renoportal and varicoportal anastomosis during liver transplantation.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of two different types of high-flux dialysis membranes on insulin resistance among patients who are receiving hemodialysis (HD) due to end-stage renal failure (ESRF).

Materials And Methods: Forty-six (21 female, 25 male) patients were included in the study, who were on HD treatment due to stage-5 chronic renal failure. Prior to the study, fasting insulin resistance via Homeostasis Model Assessment-Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and fractioned urea clearance (Kt/V) values were calculated using the urokinetic model.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the value of Ki67 expression along with other potential prognostic factors for predicting overall survival and disease-free survival in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors who underwent curative resection.

Patients And Methods: Sixty-eight histologically confirmed and operated patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors were included. Clinical and follow-up data were retrieved from medical records and patients were contacted at the end of the study.

Purpose: This study sought to evaluate the outcomes of laparoscopic donor nephrectomy in donors age 70 years and older, who may be considered extremely old.

Patients And Methods: We compared the outcomes of grafts from donors age 70 years and older (group ≥ 70; n = 28) with donors younger than 55 years (group < 55; n = 28) after matching these 2 groups in terms of sex, date of surgery, body mass index, and immunological features, retrospectively.

Results: There was no statistical difference between the 2 groups in terms of operation duration, estimated blood loss, and cold ischemia time.

Background And Objectives: The aim of this retrospective study was to compare conventional laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy with transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery-assisted living-donor nephrectomy in terms of feasibility and reproducibility.

Methods: A total of 115 consecutive female patients who underwent laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy (n=70) or transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery-assisted living-donor nephrectomy (n=45) were included and compared in terms of operative characteristics, as well as donor and recipient outcomes.

Results: No significant difference was observed between the laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy and transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery-assisted living-donor nephrectomy groups in terms of mean duration of warm and cold ischemia, operation time, length of hospital stay, arterial anastomoses, visual analog scale pain scores, serum creatinine levels, and receiver outcomes, whereas a significantly higher number of venous anastomoses was noted in the laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy group than in the transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery-assisted living-donor nephrectomy group (P=.

Background: The deregulation and localization of the Annexins is consistently reported to have close relation to tumor cell malignancy, invasion, and metastasis as well as clinical progression of tumors. This study aimed to evaluate serum Annexin A2 (Anx A2) levels in patients with colon cancer in comparison to healthy controls and in relation to demographics and tumor pathology.

Desmoid tumors (DTs) are rare tumors classified as deep fibromatoses taking origin from fascial or musculoaponeurotic structures. With pregnancy and surgical scars considered in the etiology, most anterior abdominal wall DTs occur in women in their reproductive years, especially during a pregnancy or post-partum. Herein, we present development of DT in a female patient in the post-partum period following cesarean delivery, which manifested itself with a growing mass in anterior abdominal wall.
