Article Synopsis
  • * The study analyzed 292 tumor samples and found that ROR1 was highly prevalent in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and hairy cell leukemia, while its expression was more varied in other cancers like mantle cell lymphoma and triple negative breast cancer.
  • * The research highlights the need for tailored patient selection strategies due to the diverse expression of ROR1 across various hematological malignancies and solid tumors, which could influence therapeutic development.

Cyclin D1 (CCND1) is a key regulatory protein, playing a critical role in the transition from G1 to S phase of the cell cycle. We have evaluated the association between CCND1 A870G polymorphism and risk of cervix cancer in north Indian women by using PCR-RFLP method. This association was estimated by computing odds ratio (ORs) and a 95% Confidence Intervals (95% CI) using a Multivariate Logistic Regression Analysis.

Human Trichomonas vaginalis infection ranges from asymptomatic to mild, moderate or severe clinical manifestations. The reasons for diverse symptomatology have been found to vary in several attributes and both parasite and host factors appear to play a role in the pathogenesis. The present study reports the in vitro haemolytic and cytotoxic activity of crude soluble extract (CSE) antigen of T.

Aim: To investigate the role of nitric oxide metabolites as markers of infection in subjects with preterm labor or preterm premature rupture of membranes (PTPROM). PTPROM means that there was spontaneous rupture of fetal membrane before the onset of labor and gestational age was <37 weeks. This occurs because of imbalance between matrix metalloproteinase and tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase.

A cysteine proteinase of 30 kDa (CP30) of Trichomonas vaginalis, is known to play a role in cytoadherence of the parasite to host cells. However, the CP30 activity in clinical isolates from symptomatic and asymptomatic patients has not been analyzed. In the present study, CP30 was detected in 20 fresh and long-term culture maintained T.

Anterior abdominal wall hernias are uncommon, and herniation of a gravid uterus into these hernias is even rarer. Although reducible initially, the herniation of pregnant uterus may be complicated by incarceration and subsequent strangulation within the hernial sac, late in the course of pregnancy. There is no consensus over the management of this rare condition.

Endometriosis is a well-known precursor lesion of ovarian malignancies, particularly those of endometrioid and clear-cell types and rarely of serous or mucinous types. The association of endometriosis with mucinous borderline tumors also varies. This case is of a 60 year old female, who had a long history of more than thirty years of endometriosis and developed recurrent endocervical-like mucinous borderline tumor (ELMBT) in endometriotic foci.

Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is a major cause of cervix cancer, but a number of infected women do not develop invasive lesions, suggesting that HPV infection in itself is not a sufficient factor and that other cofactors, such as smoking, play an important role in development of cervix cancer. Alongside active cigarette smoking, passive smoking is an independent risk factor for cervix cancer. Smoking maintains cervical HPV infection longer and decreases potential of clearing an oncogenic infection.

Background & Objective: While giving the gross anatomy of the mucosa of the vagina, textbooks of Anatomy and Obstetrics and Gynaecology describe the presence of a median longitudinal ridge on its anterior wall (columna rugarum anterior) and another similar ridge (columna rugarum posterior) on its posterior wall is described, and transverse rugae separated by sulci of variable depth, extend bilaterally from these ridges. While conducting autopsy of female cases the routine examination of vaginal mucosa did not show the presence of longitudinal ridges. In addition, some small areas bearing filiform papillae were seen in the lower third of the vagina in young subjects.

Background: To investigate the potential association of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymorphism and serum ACE activity with pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH).

Methods: The ACE genotype was identified and serum ACE activity was measured in 50 primigravidae with PIH and 50 normotensive primigravidae. These subjects were followed up to delivery and perinatal outcome noted.

Background: The success of induced labor depends on the degree of ripening of cervix. Pharmacological preparations are in widespread use for cervical ripening but are not free from side-effects and complications. Mechanical methods, i.

Background: Pulmonary nodules are frequently first diagnosed by frozen section, immediately followed by lobectomy or other procedures. The frozen section diagnosis of pulmonary nodules can be difficult, as inflammatory and fibrotic lesions can be confused for malignancy, creating intraoperative dilemmas for pathologists and thoracic surgeons.

Methods: We reviewed our experience at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with the frozen section diagnoses of 183 consecutive pulmonary nodules smaller than 1.

A 30 year old nulligravidfemale attended gynaecological OPD for investigation of primary infertility. Local examination revealed presence of a dark pigmented area in the posterior lip of the cervix. The biopsy from cervix showed, squamous metaplasia of the lining epithelium with presence of granules of melanin pigment in the basal layer.

Trichomonas vaginalis, the causative agent for human trichomoniasis, is a protozoan parasite. Trichomoniasis is the most common non-viral sexually transmitted disease. The infection in women may be asymptomatic or may lead to severe vaginitis, cervicitis and severe sequelae.

Trichomoniasis is the interplay between the infecting parasite, Trichomonas vaginalis, and the host, on which the clinical presentation of the disease depends. Although the clinical spectrum varies from an asymptomatic state to mild, moderate or severe symptoms, the exact virulence markers of T. vaginalis have not been well elucidated.

The host parasite relationship and pathogenic mechanisms of the commonly reported sexually transmitted urogenital disease, trichomoniasis, are poorly understood. This study was planned to correlate the adhesion properties of Trichomonas vaginalis isolates from symptomatic and asymptomatic women to vaginal epithelial cells in vitro (in presence and absence of L. acidophilus) and to ascertain the haemolytic activity of the isolates, in order to assess these properties as possible markers of pathogenicity.

Aim: To test the immunogenicity and safety of HepatitisB (HB) vaccination during pregnancy and passive transfer of antibodies to the newborn.

Methods: Ninety-nine HBsAg-negative pregnant women were divided randomly in two groups; group I was given two, and group II was given three doses of recombinant Hepatitis B vaccine and followed up until 4 months after delivery.

Results: The vaccination was safe.

Background: To estimate serial serum ferritin (SF) concentrations after 20 weeks of pregnancy in women at risk of having a preterm labor and to correlate them with the outcome of pregnancy.

Methods: Venous blood samples were drawn serially at 26, 30 and 34 weeks of gestation in one hundred pregnant women who were at risk of having a preterm delivery. Samples were analyzed for hemoglobin (Hb), leukocyte count, hemotocrit serum iron (SI), total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), SF and transferrin saturation.

Chorangiopagus parasiticus twins (CAPP) occur due to asymmetric abnormality of monozygous, twinning. It is the commonest form of asymmetric twinning, occurring in 1% of monozygous twins. The asymmetric twin survives by parasitizing the more normally developed co-twin by connecting with the chorionic circulation, hence, chorangiopagus parasiticus.
