Kidney transplantation is the preferred treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD); however, ABO incompatibility (ABOi) poses challenges due to increased graft rejection risk. Desensitization strategies, including immunoadsorption (IA), aim to overcome ABOi barriers. The objective of this case report was to present the initial findings and patient outcomes of ABOi kidney transplantation (KT) using two different brands of IA columns (Glycosorb ABO and SECORIM-ABO) in reducing isoagglutinin titers to the desired target level.

Objectives: Modern immunosuppressive regimens have reduced rejection episodes in renal allograft recipients but have increased the risk of opportunistic infections. Infections are considered to be the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular complications in renal allograft recipients. Data on opportunistic infections affecting the allograft itself are scarce.

Introduction: In view of ever-increasing end-stage renal disease (ESRD) population but inadequate availability of suitable donors, ABO-incompatible (ABOi) transplantation can be an important void filler. However, at present, ABOi transplantation is limited to a few centers in India and there is a lack of adequate experience and expertise to guide this program to other centers in the country.

Methods: Data of all the ABOi transplants performed from 2012 to 2021 in a tertiary care hospital was retrospectively analyzed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the global health system as well as the social and economic impact on tuberculosis (TB) treatment and diagnostic services. A high volume of patients diagnosed and treated for TB were impacted by the pandemic restrictions, particularly reduced access to TB services provided by the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme in India; this in turn increased the number of deaths due to TB. The Indian healthcare system has been struggling with the eradication of TB, and this additional worldwide health crisis caused by SARS-CoV-2 has put the Indian healthcare system under severe stress.

Various clinico-pathological factors play role in the papilloma proliferation and pathogenesis of Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP). However, it is not known if they are directly responsible for malignant transformation of these papillomas or not. We did this study to elucidate any such association.

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), a rare complication of heparin therapy, presents with thrombocytopenia. It leads to paradoxical thromboembolism and has high mortality if untreated. It is less recognized, especially in hemodialysis (HD) patients who are frequently exposed to heparin during dialysis because patients with renal failure may have many other causes of thrombocytopenia.

The objective of this research is to create a chain-ratio-type exponential estimator in order to estimate the finite population mean in double sampling for stratification. An estimator for population mean has been constructed based on the concept of chain-ratio estimators. The constructed estimator is compared to the standard unbiased estimator, as well as the other relevant existing estimators and conditions are shown to yield better results in terms of efficiency.

Monitoring graft health and detecting graft rejection is crucial for the success of post-transplantation outcomes. In Western countries, the use of donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) has gained widespread recognition as a diagnostic tool for kidney transplant recipients. However, the role of dd-cfDNA among the Indian population remains unexplored.

Background: Immunotherapy currently stands as a novel treatment option, specifically in cases of advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) in tumor cells forms the mainstay for the use of anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of NSCLC.

Aims: The objectives of the study were to assess utility of cell blocks for testing of PD-L1 in adenocarcinoma lung and to compare the expression of PD-L1 in cell blocks and the corresponding biopsy specimens.

The human hand, with many degrees of freedom, serves as an excellent tool for dexterous manipulation. Previous research has demonstrated that there exists a lower-dimensional subspace that synergistically controls the full hand kinematics. The elements of this subspace, also called synergies, have been viewed as the strategy developed by the CNS in the control of finger movements.

Article Synopsis
  • This study assesses the effectiveness of flow cytometry (FCM) for detecting cancer cells in serous fluids, including ascitic and pleural effusions.
  • The evaluation involved using specific epithelial markers (EpCAM and MUC-1) alongside leukocyte markers, measuring their diagnostic accuracy against established standards.
  • Results showed high sensitivity and specificity for EpCAM, especially when combined with cytomorphology, indicating a strong recommendation for using both methods together in clinical practice for faster and more accurate diagnosis in challenging cases.

The immune-inhibitory molecule programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) has been shown to play a role in pathologies such as autoimmunity, infections, and cancer. The expression of PD-L1 not only on cancer cells but also on non-transformed host cells is known to be associated with cancer progression. Generation of PD-L1 deficiency in the murine system enables us to specifically study the role of PD-L1 in physiological processes and diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate if adding diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to standard MRI enhances the accuracy in identifying the nature of bone tumors (benign vs. malignant).
  • Four radiologists assessed 133 bone tumors twice: first without DWI data, then with it, analyzing their diagnostic performance and confidence levels.
  • Results showed that while DWI did slightly improve radiologist confidence and highlighted differences in tumor types, conventional MRI alone remained sufficient for accurate diagnosis, indicating the incremental benefit of DWI is limited.

Introduction: Serous fluid cytology is a cost-effective procedure that can help in the diagnosis, staging, and origin of the malignancy. Recently introduced International System for Reporting Serous Fluid Cytology (ISRSFC) standardizes the reporting of serous fluid cytology in the 5 categories: Category 1: Nondiagnostic (ND), Category 2: negative for malignancy (NFM), Category 3: atypia of undetermined significance (AUS), Category 4: suspicious for malignancy (SFM), and Category 5: malignant (MAL). Here, we present our experience adopting the ISRSFC.
