Skeleton editing can be used to precisely replace or rearrange atoms in the core ring structure of complex molecules and is often used to modify heteroaromatic compounds. However, this approach has not been used to modify thiazole rings. We report the direct construction of spiro[benzothiazole--alkanes] through skeleton editing of thiazolium salts by carbon-to-carbon single-atom swapping.

By opening the ring of a benzothiazole salt, we provide a sulfur source for the bifunctional reaction of styrene. The ring-opening-recombination reaction of the benzothiazole salt simultaneously constructs new C-S, C-O, and CO bonds after C-S bond breaking. The reaction proceeds in green solvents, requires no transition metal catalyst, and is compatible with many functional groups.

We detected a novel bovine hepacivirus N (HNV) subtype, IME_BovHep_01, in the serum of cattle in Tengchong, Yunnan, China, by high-throughput sequencing. The complete genome of IME_BovHep_01, was sequenced using an Illumina MiSeq sequencer and found to be 8850 nt in length, encoding one hypothetical protein. BLASTn analysis showed that the genome sequence shared similarity with the bovine hepacivirus isolate BovHepV_209/Ger/2014, with 88% query coverage and 70.
