Variability in methylmercury exposure across migratory terrestrial bird species: Influencing factors, biomagnification and potential risks.

Despite China's considerable mercury (Hg) emissions, monitoring of methylmercury (MeHg) levels in its terrestrial environments remains limited. This study examined the occurrence and accumulation of MeHg in body feathers of 12 migratory terrestrial bird species originating from Siberia and northeastern China. Considerable variations in foraging habits and MeHg levels were observed among these species.

Hedgehogs as Amplifying Hosts of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus, China.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is a tickborne bandavirus mainly transmitted by Haemaphysalis longicornis ticks in East Asia, mostly in rural areas. As of April 2022, the amplifying host involved in the natural transmission of SFTSV remained unidentified. Our epidemiologic field survey conducted in endemic areas in China showed that hedgehogs were widely distributed, had heavy tick infestations, and had high SFTSV seroprevalence and RNA prevalence.

Exosomal miR-1246 and miR-155 as predictive and prognostic biomarkers for trastuzumab-based therapy resistance in HER2-positive breast cancer.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the predictive and prognostic roles of circulating exosomal miRNAs in breast cancer treated with trastuzumab-based chemotherapy.

Methods: Circulating exosomal miRNAs from trastuzumab-resistant (n = 4) and -sensitive (n = 4) patients were profiled using miRNA microarray. The predictive and prognostic roles of filtered miRNAs were validated in 107 early-stage and 68 metastatic patients treated with trastuzumab-based chemotherapy through receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression analysis, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.
