Glioma is a common primary nervous system malignant tumor with poor overall cure rate and low survival rate, yet successful treatment still remains a challenge. Here, we demonstrated that amantadine (AMT) exhibits the powerful anti-glioma effect by promoting apoptosis and autophagy in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, amantadine induces a large amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation in glioma cells, and then triggers apoptosis by destroying mitochondria.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers are advancing fish breeding models using high-tech methods, focusing on the analysis of disease resistance in large yellow croaker fish.
  • They developed a deep learning framework to automatically segment images of the fish spleen post-infection, which improves efficiency over traditional methods.
  • The study identified significant genetic markers related to disease resistance and suggests that AI can enhance genetics research in aquaculture.

Article Synopsis
  • Research investigates how thermal stress impacts alternative splicing in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) during their embryonic development, identifying key stages and genetic responses.
  • A total of 5,835 stage-specific AS genes, 21,368 temperature-specific differentially expressed genes, and 2,652 temperature-specific differentially AS genes were found, with early development being particularly sensitive to heat stress.
  • The study highlights that AS genes are mostly linked to crucial biological pathways, with subgenome B exhibiting higher AS events, and lncRNAs potentially regulating the response to thermal stress by influencing various biological processes.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are prevalently present in oceans, posing potential health risks to organisms and humans. However, information of PFAS distribution in remote open oceans is limited. In the Kuroshio Extension region of Northwest Pacific Ocean (6 stations), samples of 84 seawater (0-5800 m), 9 sediments, and 9 organisms were taken, and 25, 10, and 15 out of 29 PFASs were identified, respectively, with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS) as the most dominant PFASs.

Background: Gliomas are the most common and invasive malignant tumors that originate in the central nervous system. Currently, the primary treatment modality for gliomas is maximum surgical resection, supplemented by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, the long-term survival rate has not signifificantly increased.

Background: Intracerebral hemorrhage is a common disease, but cases of intracerebral hemorrhage with brucellosis are very rare. Here, we are presenting a case of a 60-year-old male patient diagnosed with brucellosis who has a right basal ganglia hemorrhage ruptured into bilateral lateral ventricles.

Case Presentation: A 60-year-old male patient with symptoms of intracerebral hemorrhage who had no common risk factors for intracerebral hemorrhage, but having been diagnosed with brucellosis 2 months earlier and telling a shepherd history for 3 years.

Glioma is the most common intracranial malignant tumor, and the current main standard treatment option is a combination of tumor surgical resection, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Due to the terribly poor five-year survival rate of patients with gliomas and the high recurrence rate of gliomas, some new and efficient therapeutic strategies are expected. Recently, ferroptosis, as a new form of cell death, has played a significant role in the treatment of gliomas.

Glioma is a highly heterogeneous and lethal tumor with an extremely poor prognosis. Through analysis of TCGA data, we identified that OLFML2A is a key promotor of gliomagenesis. However, the molecular function of OLFML2A and its underlying mechanism of action in glioma remain unclear.
