Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is the most common genetic syndrome predisposing patients to various tumors due to dysregulation of the Ras signaling pathway. Recent research has shown NF1 patients also suffer a spectrum of bone pathologies. The pathogenesis of NF1 bone diseases is largely unknown.

- HDAC inhibitors like Trichostatin A (TSA) induce apoptosis primarily in cancer cells, such as cervical cancer, while having minimal impact on normal cells.
- In experiments, 1 µmol/L of TSA led to significant apoptosis in Hela (86%) and Caski (76%) cancer cells, but normal cells showed over 90% survival at the same dosage.
- Reduction of the DNMT3B protein in cancer cells is linked to increased apoptosis, as knocking down DNMT3B drastically enhanced cell death in these cancer lines.
