Postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) is a prevalent condition and associated with increased morbidity and mortality following cardiac surgery. This study aimed to investigate the association of underweight and obesity with adverse postoperative renal outcomes in infants and young children undergoing congenital heart surgery. This retrospective cohort study included patients aged from 1 month to 5 years who underwent congenital heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from January 2016 to March 2022.

Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is a major complication following pediatric cardiac surgery, which is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. The early prediction of CSA-AKI before and immediately after surgery could significantly improve the implementation of preventive and therapeutic strategies during the perioperative periods. However, there is limited clinical information on how to identify pediatric patients at high risk of CSA-AKI.

Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) is a distinct uterine leiomyoma, even rare when combined with intracardiac invasion. Although leiomyomas are histologically benign, intracardiac metastasis may cause circulatory failure and death. Herein, we report a 55-year-old woman with a tricuspid chordae mass on echocardiography.

Article Synopsis
  • * The main sources of PFOS in China were domestic production and its usage in final products, leading to significant environmental emissions, primarily into soil and water, with 103 tons emitted in 2019.
  • * Despite an increase in management and trends toward greener solutions, traditional end-of-life methods like landfill and incineration were still dominant, and the study aims to support better PFOS management strategies in China.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether variability in warfarin stable dose (WSD) could be influenced by vitamin K-related polymorphisms in patients with heart valve replacement. Twenty-nine vitamin K-related SNPs in 208 patients who initially took warfarin and achieved WSD were genotyped. After conducting conditional analysis for both -1639G>A and *3, rs1800139 and rs1800154 were significantly associated with WSD (p = 0.

Warfarin international normalized ratio (INR)-related phenotypes such as the percentage of INR time in the therapeutic range (PTTR) and INR variability are associated with warfarin adverse reactions. However, INR-related phenotypes greatly vary among patients, and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. As a key cofactor for coagulation proteins, vitamin K can affect warfarin INR values.

Purpose: To investigate the influence of cytochrome P450 oxidoreductase (POR) polymorphisms (A503V and rs2868177) on warfarin stable dosage (WSD) in Han-Chinese patients with mechanical heart valve replacement (MHVR).

Methods: Three hundred and seventeen Han-Chinese MHVR patients on stable maintenance dose of warfarin were enrolled. Blood samples were collected for genotyping analyses of VKORC1 -1639G>A, CYP2C9 *3, CYP4F2 rs2108622 and POR (A503V and rs2868177).

Vegetation coverage is an important parameter in terrestrial ecological process, meteorological, and climatic models. By eliminating the errors from the precision of image classification and the noises of remote sensing images, and by using the actual data from fieldwork, this paper determined the maximum and minimum values of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), improved the sub-pixel model, and verified this model by calculating the vegetation coverage of Beijing. The results showed that the estimation value of the improved model was very close to the measurements, especially for the herbaceous plants whose vegetation types were the same but the densities were different.
