Rationale: Isopsoralen (ISO), a quality control marker (Q-marker) in Psoraleae Fructus, is proven to present an obvious anti-osteoporosis effect. Until now, the metabolism and anti-osteoporosis mechanisms of ISO have not been fully elucidated, greatly restricting its drug development.

Methods: The metabolites of ISO in rats were profiled by using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Osthole (also known as Osthol) is the main anti-inflammatory coumarin found in Cnidium monnieri and severs as the exclusive quality-controlled component according the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. However, its underlying anti-inflammatory mechanism remains unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that Osthole treatment significantly inhibited the generation of TNF-α, but not IL-6 in the classical LPS-stimulated RAW264.

Background: Cholestasis is characterized by accumulation of bile components in liver and systemic circulation. Restoration of bile acid homeostasis via activating farnesoid x receptor (FXR) is a promising strategy for the treatment of cholestasis. FXR-SHP (small heterodimer partner) axis plays an important role in maintaining bile acid homeostasis.

The InAs/GaSb superlattice infrared detector has been developed with tremendous effort. However, the performance of it, especially long-wavelength infrared detectors (LWIR), is still limited by the electrical performance and optical quantum efficiency (QE). Forcing the active region to be p-type through proper doping can highly improve QE, and the gating technique can be employed to greatly enhance electrical performance.

The incidence of postoperative sepsis is continually increased, while few studies have specifically focused on the risk factors and clinical outcomes associated with the development of sepsis after surgical procedures. The present study aimed to develop a mathematical model for predicting the in-hospital mortality among patients with postoperative sepsis. Surgical patients in Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III) database who simultaneously fulfilled Sepsis 3.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the possible association between migration inhibitory factor (MIF)-173G/C gene polymorphisms and transcript and plasma levels of MIF in spinal tuberculosis (TB) patients. Clinical data were collected from 254 spinal TB patients and 262 healthy controls participating in the study. The genotype of the MIF-173G/C gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction and genotyped by DNA sequencing technology.

Rationale: Although prosthetic loosening caused by poor prosthesis positioning is common after total hip arthroplasty (THA), an inflammation caused by poor prosthesis positioning is rare. We report a case in which a THA-related inflammation was indeed caused by poor prosthesis positioning.

Patient Concerns: A 64-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a history of persistent hip pain that had started after she had undergone THA 4 years previously.

Protein phosphorylation is a reversible and important post-translational modification. Identification of phosphopeptides without enrichment is difficult for the low-abundance of phosphopeptides in real complex biological samples. Therefore, the effective and selective concentration of phosphopeptides prior to proteomic identification by mass spectrometer is necessary.

Depression is a common and disabling mental disorder characterized by high disability and mortality, but its physiopathology remains unclear. In this study, we combined a non-targeted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)-based metabolomic approach and isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ)-based proteomic analysis to elucidate metabolite and protein alterations in the hippocampus of rat after chronic social defeat stress (CSDS), an extensively used animal model of depression. Ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) was conducted to integrate underlying relationships among differentially expressed metabolites and proteins.
