Prussian blue analogs (PBAs), as a classical kind of microporous materials, have attracted substantial interests considering their well-defined framework structures, unique physicochemical properties and low cost. However, PBAs typically adopt cubic structure that features small pore size and low specific surface area, which greatly limits their practical applications in various fields ranging from gas adsorption/separation to energy conversion/storage and biomedical treatments. Here we report the facile and general synthesis of unconventional hexagonal open PBA structures.

Klebsiella pneumoniae, an emerging multidrug-resistant pathogen, exhibits hypermucoviscosity (HMV) as a critical virulence trait mediated by its capsular polysaccharide (CPS). Recent discoveries have determined acetylation as a significant modification for CPS, although its impact on HMV and virulence was previously unknown. This study elucidates the roles of two enzymes: Klebsiella pneumoniae Acetylated CPS Esterase (KpACE), an esterase that removes acetyl groups from CPS, and WcsU, an acetyltransferase that adds acetyl groups to CPS.

  • Bone metastasis (BM) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is linked to a poor prognosis, but there's uncertainty on how to treat patients with only bone metastases.
  • A study at Peking University Cancer Hospital analyzed data from 54 RCC patients with bone-only metastases, revealing that many faced disease progression with a median progression-free survival (PFS) of 16.2 months and overall survival (OS) of 65.2 months.
  • Results indicated that patients with fewer metastatic sites had better outcomes, and factors like the number of metastasis sites and certain RCC characteristics can help predict survival and influence treatment options.

The control and utilization of coalbed methane (CBM) are crucial for ensuring the safety of coal mining operations and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. Predrainage of CBM from boreholes plays a pivotal role in preventing CBM accidents, harnessing CBM energy resources, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To better understand the evolution of key parameters during the predrainage process of CBM boreholes, this study, based on fundamental assumptions of coupling models, integrates the theories of elasticity, seepage mechanics, and fluid mechanics.
