Background: Opioids such as sufentanil are used as anaesthetics due to their rapid action and superior analgesic effect. However, sufentanil induces a huge cough in paediatric patients. In contrast, intravenous (IV) lidocaine suppresses opioid-induced cough in children, but its use is limited due to anaesthetists' concern about its toxicity.

Background: Preoperative anxiety often prevails in children at higher levels than adults, which is a common impediment for surgeons and anesthesiologists. It is of great necessity to explore an appropriate medication to improve this situation. Remimazolam, a type of benzodiazepine drug, has been indicated for the induction and maintenance of procedural sedation in adults since 2020.

Improving the level of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) self-care behavior by people receiving hemodialysis is an effective way to reduce the occurrence of complications and mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the self-care behavior of Chinese patients undergoing hemodialysis with arteriovenous fistula. The assessment of self-care behaviors with arteriovenous fistula in hemodialysis (ASBHD-AVF, Portuguese version) was translated into Chinese using Brislin's translation model.

A method for the simultaneous determination of sixteen mycotoxins in cogon rootstalk was developed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadropole mass spectrometry(UPLC-QqQ-MS/MS). The samples were extracted with acetonitrile contained 1% acetic acid and purified by QuEChERS method. The separation was performed on an Agilent Eclipse Plus C₁₈column by gradient elution using methanol and 0.

Article Synopsis
  • * The Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) values for most glycosides ranged from 1.1% to 4.6%, indicating good precision, although two compounds had RSD values over 5%.
  • * Results suggest that the G. biloba reference extract can effectively serve as a substitute for individual reference substances when measuring specific flavonol glycosides.

Article Synopsis
  • * Pseudolaric acid C2 (PC2) was identified as the major metabolite found in blood, urine, bile, and feces, along with several other metabolites like demethoxydeacetoxypseudolaric acid B (DDPB) and various glucosylated forms.
  • * The findings revealed that TDA metabolism occurs independently of the gut microbiome and gastric enzymes, primarily taking place in the blood, providing new insights into its metabolic pathway and potential mechanisms of action.

Three new oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins named celosins H, I, and J were isolated from the seeds of Celosia argentea L. Their structures were characterized as 3-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl-polygalagenin 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl ester, 3-O-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl-medicagenic acid 28-O-β-D-xylcopyranosyl-(1 → 4)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-fucopyranosyl ester, and 3-O-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl-medicagenic acid 28-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-[β-D-xylcopyranosyl-(1 → 4)]-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-fucopyranosyl ester by NMR, MS, and chemical evidences, respectively. In our opinion, celosins H-J could be used as chemical markers for the quality control of C.

A new UPLC method was developed for the simultaneous determination of eleven characteristic flavonoid glycosides in Ginkgo biloba leaves. The natural occurrence of flavonoid glycosides in Ginkgo biloba leaves within one vegetative season was investigated for the first time. The analysis was performed on an Agilent ZORBAX Eclipse Plus C18 column (50 mm x 4.

Pentastomiasis, a zoonotic parasitic disease, has been reported commonly in Africa and Asia. It is caused by pentastomes, which are annulated but unsegmented blood-sucking endoparasites. Fewer than 20 cases have been reported during the past two decades in China, and cases in children have been especially rare.

A 90-year-old Chinese man was transferred to the Emergency Department of the Affiliated Shantou Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University for treatment of an acute myocardial infarction. He suffered chest pain with three days of cough, dyspnea and fever. A diagnosis of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy was made in normal coronary arteries from urgent coronary angiography and characteristic apical dyskinesis and basal hyper contractility in left ventriculography.

The metabolic profile of pseudolaric acid B (PB) was investigated by using in vivo and in vitro tests. Pseudolaric acid C2 (PC2) was identified as the specific metabolite of PB in plasma, urine, bile and feces using HPLC and HPLC-ESI/MS(n) after both oral and intravenous administration to rats, and almost no prototype was detected in all kinds of samples. The metabolic behaviors of PB orally administered in rats treated with antibiotics to eliminate intestinal microflora were identical with those in untreated rats, demonstrating that the metabolism of PB is independent of intestinal microflora.

Previous studies have shown that pseudolaric acid B (PB) would cause apoptosis in human tumor cell lines. However, the mechanisms of PB induced apoptosis are still unclear. In the present study, the mechanisms of PB induced apoptosis in the human hepatocellular carcinoma Bel-7402 cell line were investigated by measuring cell viability, rate of apoptosis, cell cycle, detecting DNA fragmentation, and measuring caspase-3 activation.
