We experimentally and computationally analyze impact-shock-induced stress wave propagation in packings of disordered flexible fibers. We find that dispersive wave propagation, associated with large stress attenuation, occurs much more prevalently in systems with larger fiber aspect ratios and moderate fiber flexibility. We trace these features to the microstructural properties of fiber contact chains and the energy-trapping abilities of deformable fibers.

Background: Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a severely progressive disease that leads to right heart failure and death. Previous studies have shown that diabetes and insulin resistance (IR) are closely related to pulmonary hypertension, but the role of IR in patients with CTEPH remains unexplored. In this study, we investigated the relationship between four insulin resistance indices and disease severity, hemodynamic parameters, and adverse outcomes in patients with CTEPH.

Background: Cachexia is a wasting syndrome associated with imbalanced energy metabolism and loss of adipose and muscle tissues and contributes to morbidity and mortality in ageing as well as in patients with severe chronic diseases, including cancer. At present, there are no treatments addressing cachexia that have reached validation to be used in the clinic. In this study, we investigate the protective role of SIRT6, an important regulator of energy homeostasis and health preservation, against Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC)-induced cachexia.

To explore the efficacy and safety profile of sofosbuvir/velpatasvir/voxilaprevir ± ribavirin (SOF/VEL/VOX±RBV) for salvage treatment of chronic hepatitis C patients who have failed direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Patients with chronic hepatitis C who failed DAAs±RBV treatment and were treated in five hospitals in Chongqing, Guangdong, Guizhou, and Guangxi from January 2022 to December 2023 were included in this retrospective study. One or more courses of DAAs±RBV therapy were evaluated for all patients who had been previously treated.

In response to the issues of insufficient audio feature representation and insufficient model generalization ability in music structure analysis methods, a music structure analysis method based on beat feature fusion and an improved residual network was designed. Music structure analysis (MSA) contains two tasks, boundary detection and segment labeling. Boundary detection and Segment labeling are expected to accurately divide music segments and clarify the function.

Mercaptopropionyl wheat straw (MPWS) was prepared as an adsorbent by modifying wheat straw with mercaptopropionyl groups, and the ability of MPWS for the removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solution was examined. The removal of Ni(II) by using MPWS was identified through investigating the impacts of MPWS dosage, adsorption temperature, and adsorption time. Different models for the adsorption isotherm and kinetics were utilized to fit the experimental results and elucidate the mechanism of MPWS for Ni(II).

Pitch-based hard carbon (HC) materials at low cost and high carbon yield represent a promising anode for sodium-ion batteries. However, their limited capacity poses a significant challenge to their practical use. Here, we report a universal strategy to boost sodium storage of pitch-based HC materials via catalytic oxidation with magnesium oxide to produce a high-oxygen pitch.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical that has adverse effects on human health and may cause childhood obesity. Nevertheless, the association between BPA exposure and adiposity measures in children remains controversial, especially in young children. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 208 randomly selected children 4 to 6 years old attending preschools in Guangzhou, China.

Insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) play key roles in fetal growth and development. However, their roles in the association between fetal growth and perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) exposure remain unclear. In this study, the levels of 34 PFAS, IGF1, and insulin were measured in 258 paired mother-infant serum samples collected from a nested case-control study in Maoming city.

Introduction: The outcome following hysteroscopy adhesiolysis of Asherman's syndrome in the puerperal period who appeared to do less well than the participants who developed the syndrome unrelated to child birth. As there is no literature to support or refute the observation, we decided to conduct a retrospective cohort study to compare the outcome of hysteroscopic adhesiolysis in women who developed Asherman's syndrome within or outside the puerperal period.

Material And Methods: This retrospective cohort study aimed to compare the outcome of hysteroscopic adhesiolysis in women who developed Asherman's syndrome within the puerperal period and women who developed the Asherman's syndrome outside the puerperal period.

The implementation of carbon-coated microsized SiO (MSiO@C) materials in high energy density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is challenged by their low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE), large volume expansion, and limited cycle life. Even though prelithiation is an effective strategy to enhance ICE, it will make the prelithiated MSiO@C (Li-MSiO@C) extremely sensitive to moisture. For industrial applications, it is important to develop chemically and electrochemically stable Li-MSiO@C with high ICE and good cycling performance.

Background And Objectives: Early-life risk factors influence the aging process in the short term and shape its trajectory in the long term. We aim to (1) explore the association between childhood socioeconomic position (cSEP) and frailty trajectories and (2) test whether adult socioeconomic position (aSEP) mediates the association between cSEP and frailty trajectories.

Research Design And Methods: We analyzed 4 waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study data.

Classical swine fever (CSF) caused by classical swine fever virus (CSFV) has resulted in severe losses to the pig industry worldwide. CSFV non-structural protein 4B (NS4B) plays a crucial role in CSFV replication and pathogenicity. However, the function of NS4B is still limited during CSFV infection.

Benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) is a carcinogenic contaminant widely present in the environment. Recently, increasing studies have paid attention to the developmental neurotoxicity of B[a]P in offspring in their early life stages; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms have not been clearly elucidated. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of prenatal B[a]P exposure on neurobehavior of pups during their brain growth spurt (BGS) period and also explore the potential underlying mechanisms.

To provide clinicians with effective tools for identifying high-risk patients, this study assesses the predictive value of the age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index (ACCI) and its simplified version, the quick ACCI (qACCI), for mortality in septic patients.

Methods: This retrospective study included septic patients from four Chinese medical centers.

Features of circular RNAs (circRNAs) produced by back-splicing of eukaryotic exon(s) make them resistant to degradation by linear RNA decay machineries. Thus, a general circRNA degradation pathway under normal conditions has remained largely elusive. Here, we report that the endonucleolytic enzyme DIS3 is responsible for the degradation of circRNAs.

We employed synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) to assess the slope stability of a high-altitude landfill in Sangri County, Shannan, Tibet. To address the unique climatic conditions of high-altitude regions, the InSAR deformation monitoring model was enhanced to mitigate the effects of temperature and rainfall. The accuracy of InSAR monitoring in high-elevation slopes was validated by comparison with GNSS RTK measurements.
