Nitrogen heterocyclic antibiotics (NHAs) pollution poses a significant threat to aquatic ecosystems. Ozonation (O) pretreatment is beneficial for the removal of total nitrogen (TN) in antibiotics by facilitating subsequent biological treatment. However, nitrogen transformation and bacterial community responses when treating NHAs by O-coupled biological processes remain unclear.

Acute peripheral vestibular dysfunction is associated with a variety of postural and balance disturbances. Vestibular rehabilitation training (VRT) is widely acknowledged as an effective intervention for promoting vestibular compensation. Nevertheless, the broader implementation of early VRT is hindered by an incomplete understanding of its neurobiological mechanisms.

Our study aimed to investigate the relationship between δ-catenin expression and whole-brain small-world network in breast cancer patients before chemotherapy using rs-fMRI. The study was based on the hypothesis that different δ-catenin expression levels correspond to distinct brain imaging characteristics. A total of 105 pathologically confirmed breast cancer patients were collected and categorized into high δ-catenin expression (DH, 52 cases) and low expression (DL, 53 cases) groups.

The objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy of the semantic segmentation model in predicting cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) and heart enlargement and compare its consistency with the reference standard. A total of 650 consecutive chest radiographs from our center and 756 public datasets were retrospectively included to develop a segmentation model. Three semantic segmentation models were used to segment the heart and lungs.

Excess dietary sodium can accumulate in brain and adversely affect human health. We have confirmed in previous studies that high salt can induce activation of astrocyte manifested by the secretion of various inflammatory factors. In order to further explore the effect of high salt on the internal cell metabolism of astrocytes, RNA sequencing was performed on astrocytes under high salt environment, which indicated the oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis pathways of astrocytes were downregulated.

Background: Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), one of the leading causes of hearing loss in young adults, is a major health care problem that has negative social and economic consequences. It is commonly recognized that individual susceptibility largely varies among individuals who are exposed to similar noise. An objective method is, therefore, needed to identify those who are extremely sensitive to noise-exposed jobs to prevent them from developing severe NIHL.

Bacterium-like particles (BLPs) have gained significant attention in vaccine development due to their potential as effective immune enhancers and antigen delivery systems. BLPs are generated by boiling lactic acid bacteria in an acidic solution and are devoid of proteins and nucleic acids, offering advantages in terms of ease of preparation, high safety, and good stability. Furthermore, by employing protein anchor (PA), heterogeneous antigens can be efficiently displayed on the surface of BLPs, resulting in enhanced delivery effectiveness.

Platinum group metals (PGM) have yet to be the most active catalysts in various sustainable energy reactions. Their high cost, however, has made maximizing the activity and minimizing the dosage become an urgent priority for the practical applications of emerging technologies. Herein, a novel 2D Pd nanomesh structure possessing hole inner reconstructed edges (HIER) with exposed high energy facets and overstretched lattice parameters is fabricated through a facile room-temperature reduction method at gram-scale yields.

Article Synopsis
  • A new strategy for creating advanced air cathodes is presented, employing atomic Fe/FeC@N-doped C catalysts on carbon cloth to improve oxygen reduction reaction performance in flexible zinc-air batteries (ZABs).
  • The method utilizes a self-assembled metal-organic framework, which ensures even distribution of the catalyst on the carbon cloth, enhancing the battery's efficiency.
  • The design features like a hollow cubic structure and nitrogen doping optimize electron transfer, leading to outstanding electrochemical properties, such as high half wave potential and stability in alkaline conditions.

The rapid development of modern electronic devices increasingly requires thermal management materials with controllable electrical properties, ranging from conductive and dielectric to insulating, to meet the needs of diverse applications. However, highly thermally conductive materials usually have a high electrical conductivity. Intrinsically highly thermally conductive, but electrically insulating materials are still limited to a few kinds of materials.

The frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, including rapid temperature fluctuations, are increasing because of climate change. Long-term fertilization practices have been observed to alter microbial physiology and community structure, thereby affecting soil carbon sequestration. However, the effects of warming on the carbon sequestration potential of soil microbes adapted to long-term fertilization remain poorly understood.

Surface reconstruction plays an essential role in electrochemical catalysis. The structures, compositions, and functionalities of the real catalytic species and sites generated by reconstruction, however, are yet to be clearly understood, for the metastable or transit state of most reconstructed structures. Herein, a series of NiFe oxalates (NiFe CO, x = 1, 0.

Background: The overall understanding of the correlations between mortality risk and phytoestrogens in general population remains limited. We examined the association between urinary phytoestrogen levels and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Methods: Weighted Cox proportional hazard regression models were employed to calculate adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

While many mRNAs contain more than one translation initiation site (TIS), the functions of most alternative TISs and their corresponding protein isoforms (proteoforms) remain undetermined. Here, we showed that alternative usage of CUG and AUG TISs in neuronal pentraxin receptor (NPR) mRNA produced two proteoforms, of which the ratio was regulated by RNA secondary structure and neuronal activity. Downstream AUG initiation truncated the N-terminal transmembrane domain and produced a secreted NPR proteoform sufficient in promoting synaptic clustering of AMPA-type glutamate receptors.

Large amounts of machine learning methods with condensed names bring great challenges for researchers to select a suitable approach for a target dataset in the area of academic research. Although the graph neural networks based on the knowledge graph have been proven helpful in recommending a machine learning method for a given dataset, the issues of inadequate entity representation and over-smoothing of embeddings still need to be addressed. This article proposes a recommendation framework that integrates the feature-enhanced graph neural network and an anti-smoothing aggregation network.

Polarons can control carrier mobility and can also be used in the design of quantum devices. Although much effort has been directed into investigating the nature of polarons, observation of defect-related polarons is challenging due to electron-defect scattering. Here we explore the polaronic behavior of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in a diamond crystal using an ultrafast pump-probe technique.
