The molecular clock machinery regulates several homeostatic rhythms, including glucose metabolism. We previously demonstrated that Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) has a weight-independent effect on glucose homeostasis and transiently reduces food intake. In this study we investigate the effects of RYGB on diurnal eating behavior as well as on the molecular clock and this clock's requirement for the metabolic effects of this bariatric procedure in obese mice.

Bsardet Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a genetic condition associated with various clinical features including cutaneous disorders and certain autoimmune and inflammatory diseases pointing to a potential role of BBS proteins in the regulation of immune function. BBS1 protein, which is a key component of the BBSome, a protein complex involved in the regulation of cilia function and other cellular processes, has been implicated in the immune synapse assembly by promoting the centrosome polarization to the antigen-presenting cells. Here, we assessed the effect of disrupting the BBSome, through gene deletion, in T cells.

Methods: Data were collected from two prospectively enrolled CATCH-LIFE noncirrhotic cohorts. Cox regression analysis was used to investigate the association between systemic inflammatory biomarkers and 90-day liver transplant (LT)-free mortality.
Objective: Bone morphogenetic protein 8B (BMP8B) plays a major role in the regulation of energy homeostasis by modulating brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and white adipose tissue (WAT) browning. Here, we investigated whether BMP8B's role in metabolism is affected by obesity and the possible molecular mechanisms underlying that action.
Methods: Central treatments with BMP8B were performed in rats fed a standard (SD) and high-fat diet (HFD), as well as in genetically modified mice.
Using negative oxygen ion (NOI) observations, with an hourly resolution, the automatic weather station (AWS), and a comparative analysis of three well-known scenic locations, namely, Zoige Wetland Nature Reserve (ZWNR), Sichuan Panda Nature Habitat (PNH), and Hangzhou West Lake (HWL) Scenic Area was performed and the dynamic mechanisms of typical wetlands in response to a NOI surge were investigated. The findings are as follows. ① At HWL, NOI concentration was higher than in the metropolitan center.

Additionally, endothelial dysfunction is associated with many pathological conditions, including obesity. Here, we assessed the role of the BBSome, a protein complex composed of eight Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) proteins in endothelial cells.

Methods: C57BL/6 mice were randomized to the normal control (CON) group, the AP (induced by cerulein injection) (CAE) group, and AP pretreated with Se@SiO nanocomposites at 1 and 2 mg/kg (CAE + 1 or 2 mg/kg Se@SiO ) groups, respectively. Serum levels of amylase and lipase, inflammatory cytokines (interleukin [IL]-6, IL-1β and tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatinine (Cr) were measured, and histopathology was performed to examine the tissue samples of the pancreas, lungs, kidneys and liver.
Unlabelled: Although morphology and grain size are important to rice growth and yield, the identity of abundant natural allelic variations that determine agronomically important differences in crops is unknown. Here, we characterized the function of mitogen-activated protein kinase 3 from Wall. ex Watt encoded by .

Here, we demonstrate, using a combination of direct and indirect calorimetry, an increase in total resting metabolic rate (RMR) and specifically anaerobic RMR after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), but not sleeve gastrectomy (SG). We also show an RYGB-specific increase in splanchnic sympathetic nerve activity and "browning" of visceral mesenteric fat.

We show that the collision process in the Toda system is perfectly symmetric about the collision point, whereas in the Hertz system, the collision process involves more complex dynamics. The symmetry in the Toda system forbids the formation of secondary SWs (SSWs), while the absence of symmetry in the Hertz system allows the generation of SSWs.

Upper air and surface data from 1960 to 2016, NCEP reanalysis from 1990 to 2016, air composition data from 2015 to 2016, and data from the drift automatic weather station in the Arctic from August 2012 to February 2013 are used to analyze the heavy foggy haze in China from a global perspective. Our findings show that sensitive foggy haze in winter is located in the eastern region of China because of the comprehensive effect of multi-factor meteorological conditions and the response to climate change under global warming as follows. (1) For the past half-century, two winter monsoon airflows blow from the East Asian continent and adjacent sea to North China.

In this study, the Bt cotton cultivar Sikang 3 was used as expe-rimental material, with two treatments (40% field capacity and 38 ℃, HD, and 60% field capacity and 32 ℃, CK). Differences in proteomics of Bt cotton between HD and CK were compared using label-free quantitative proteomics technology.

Using a suitable Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin approach to the solution of the associated scattering problem we accurately predict, in a fully analytical way, the number and the features (amplitude and velocity) of solitonlike excitations emerging post-breaking, as a function of the dispersion smallness parameter. This also permits us to predict and analyze the near-recurrences, thereby inferring the universal character of the mechanism originally discovered for the Korteweg-deVries equation.

Here, we examined the effects of mitoQ on pre-existing obesity in C57BL/6J mice first made obese by 107 days of HF feeding. In contrast to our preventative study, we found that already obese mice did not tolerate mitoQ at 500 mol/L.

Insulin and its receptor are critical for the regulation of metabolic functions, but the mechanisms underlying insulin receptor (IR) trafficking to the plasma membrane are not well understood. Here, we show that Bardet Biedl Syndrome (BBS) proteins are necessary for IR localization to the cell surface. We demonstrate that the IR interacts physically with BBS proteins, and reducing the expression of BBS proteins perturbs IR expression in the cell surface.

We administered mitoQ or vehicle (ethanol) to obesity-prone C57BL/6 mice fed high-fat (HF) or normal-fat (NF) diets. MitoQ (500 µM) or vehicle (ethanol) was added to the drinking water for 28 weeks.

Serial novel chiral polydiacetylenes (PDAs) are efficiently prepared at room temperature by the controllable electrophoretic deposition of diacetylenes with tunable structure as designed from easily available starting materials. The colorimetrically reversible properties of PDAs in the range between 25 and 85 °C are influenced by the different amino acid moiety in the PDAs as anticipated. The PDA containing aromatic ring is much better for the colorimetrically reversible properties, while irreversible thermochromism is displayed for the PDA with the structure of the longer methylene units in the main chain of amino acid moiety.
